I have had the level C-6&C-7 for me I was plagued with numbness in my left arm into fingertips. For me I had instant relief from pain, all this was caused from a bone spur pressing on the nerve. But they did a fusion on C6 C7 although I wanted to advise you that I have a disc C5 that is also which was herninated but not symptomatic at the time of the orginal fusion which was exactly 2 years ago. My surgeon did advise me that levels above the fusion could also become an issue. I have had a to have 2 RFA's since my first surgery on my neck. The result being that I also have myofascial in my neck and shoulder region and spasms also. The RFA's did help with those issues. About a month ago the turned my neck started to hurt pretty bad just assumed I needed to have another RFA done., Surgeon did an Xray and determined the disc C5 which wasn't fused in the first neck surgery, has a bone spur attached and that it's causing the pain I have been experiencing. Decided to have the 2nd RFA done and see if that will prolong the inevitable surgery. For me I really didn't have any complaints with the C6&C7 fusion had the C5 disc not been an issue for me orginally I would have considered my neck fusion a success. But my surgeon did tell me that eventually I will have to have that level fused also. But if the RFA hold the pain down and allow me to function I will stick with those.

Hope my post was helpful and didn't sound like I just rambling. But it did help and work for the issues that I had.

I had the same surgery.  Prior to the surgery I was in so much pain. I was experiencing migraines. Turning my head brought on pain and severe headaches. I had pain and numbness in my arms and hands.  I thought the surgery was the only way out of this.
I've had 3 cervical surgeries total. The first was anterior no fusion.  The 2nd was to fuse and correct the first surgery. The 3rd surgery was posterior and was a result of a car accident less than 6 months after the cervical fusion.  So my situation is obviously different than yours and I have fibromyalgia in addition. Having cervical surgery is unlike other surgeries on the spine in that it affects your balance, ears, sight.  I developed "cervical vertigo" after the 2nd surgery.  So when I turn my head from side to side I get dizzy.  So when I drive or go to the store and turn my head I get lightheaded and dizzy.  I still get migraines, less frequent because I've learned what brings them on.  I have tremendous achiness in my neck and shoulders and between my shoulder blades, the surgeon said I would always have this pain. I also developed arthritis above and below the surgery site.  I don't socialize much at all since these surgeries, talking in a room of people for any length of time makes the muscles of my neck and upper back hurt so bad I am in tears.  It's hard to turn my head to listen and talk to people.
These are just a few things surgeons don't mention.  For one reason these things may or may not happen to you.  But with any surgery there are so many factors to consider. Unless you are in unbearable pain or your spine has an instability think long and hard before having this surgery.

Unfortunately no one can really tell you if the surgery will indeed help you because for one there are many variables such as your surgeons ability as well as you personally and how your body reacts to the procedure.
You are correct there are many that have had little or no help from this surgery but keep in mind that too there are those that have had success. you can't rely on others surgeries and how they went because each person is different.
I would suggest that you talk to your surgeon and ask him  for some kind of estimate as to how well the surgery  will go for you. Some will give you a percentage rate such as maybe you have a 50/50 chance of it helping.
The surgeon is really that can give you a fair estimate.
I would also do some research as to the healing time and the surgery itself. If your expecting full relief then in my opinion you may be expecting too much. You may however get full relief but it is more realistic that you will have some relief but rarely does it serve as a full recovery as you were before your pain.
others will post and may be able to help and tell you their experiences surgery. I ave not had this surgery so I can't help you there. My Dad was going to have the surgery but in the end decided against it after he done the research so make sure you do the research before and decide if this what you want to do at this point.
