Side effect of Percocet?

Has any of you that have been on Percocet had hair loss from it? My friend broke her neck around a month ago in a ski accident, she is very lucky to be alive, she is in alot of pain cause she won't take her pain meds cause her hair started to fall out. I never had this problem when I was on it I was just wondering if anyone else has.
Also anyone with nerve pain have you had injections? I have heard bad and good things about them and was wondering how it worked for everyone and how they do it.
Thanks
Jamie

While Percocet affects everyone differently, your friend's broken neck may be responsible for her hair loss, since her body is trying to heal come vital connections.

It's a thought.

Thank you guys. I am not sure if she is on Steroids or not. I do know that she was saving up money to move to a different state before this happen and she is a RN and getting ready to take a test in that state and this has stopped all of her dreams plus she is very active, always playing sports and now she can't even walk down the stairs so I think it is stress. I told her there is no point in being in so much pain when she has meds that will help her with that. She is only in her 20s.
I have heard bad thing about the injections, dr said when I am cleared he will start the pain meds. That will be the middle of next month he said he was my choice either the injections or pain meds.
Thanks
Jamie

I've never heard of hair loss as a side effect of Percocet, but if your friend is on any steroid for inflammation from her broken neck, it's possible the steroid could be at least a contributing factor to the hair loss.  I've been on prednisone many times for many reasons, and there have been times when I've been on it (usually when on for an extended period or at a high dose) when I've experienced hair thinning and loss.  At one point while on it, I would wake up every morning to find my pillow covered with hair that I had lost overnight.  It's frustrating and embarrassing, but the good thing is that once the medication was stopped, it grew back and in fact, even came back thicker and with more wave/curl than before.

I've had horrible experiences with the spinal injections.  I've had 14 in 1.5 years.  I hope not to have any more.  They make my pain unbearable for weeks until all the steroids absorb into my body.

I've had the least amount of side effects with the percocet.  It made me feel a ill until it was in my system for a while.  It did help a lot with the pain, but I have a tolarence to them and they only last about an hour or two at the most.

Hi Jamie,

Mollyrae is correct. Your friend is probably just under stress. Anxiety, emotional stress, overwork and fatigue can cause hair loss or thinning. These factors may unbalance your body functioning, producing alterations that will lead to hair loss. Usually these cases are temporary and sudden hair loss in young women stops when the stressful time ends.

Physical changes such as a hormonal imbalance is the main cause for sudden hair loss in young women. As it's normally known, testosterone is the main hair producer hormone in your body.

I highly doubt that Percocet can cause hair loss. Your friend should consult her PCP.

The second question regarding steroid injections for nerve pain I have to answer the same way that Molly has, they have never been very effective for me. As you have heard I also know others that have had wonderful success with these injections. In my opinion much depends on the condition, the skill of the practitioner, the location of the pain and how your body responds. I took the chance that it would work. I think that when we have unrelenting pain anything it worth a try as long as the pro's out weigh the cons and we make educated decisions.

Good luck to you and your friend. Please let us know how you are both doing.

Peace,
~Tuck

No hair loss. It entirely possible that your friend is under so much stress that her hair is falling out. That's the most likely theory.

As far as nerve pain injections...yes, they have never worked for me. Only added to my pain but everyone is different.

Hope this helps.
