Hello judon and welcome to the Pain Forum.

Sandee is correct. Your Doctor hit a nerve and that can be excruciating. Many years ago, I had a few of them and the shots never did me any good. They only made me hurt for a couple of weeks.

In my opinion....and it's only my opinion...they really don't do much good. I would steer clear of them from now on and ask your Doc to go a different route.

Please take care and good luck down the line.

When I had the ESI, it made my pain unbearable for a little more then two weeks.  The PM did not clue me as to why that happened.  He said that they would not work for me and did not repeat the procedure.  One of the side effects for the epidural is increased pain.  I don't know if you would react the same way again.  I hope you and your pm can find a way to relieve your pain.

it sounds like he hit a nerve when he did your right side. This is very painful, when I used to get them done my doc used a machine that showed where the needle was going therefore I did not have this happen.
I would ask if your doctor can do this to avoid this in the future.
