Hello tonyd96,
I think sandee has done a good job of answering your questions regarding the vancomycin reacting with drug test. I don't have anything to add but I am concerned about your wife, and you.
I'd like to welcome you to MedHelp. I am glad you found us. You sound like a very supportive husband and I am sure your wife is grateful for you.
If you are concerned that she may harm herself you need to call your local mental health clinic. If you think it is imminent then ER may be the best route for you. I recall recently a patient attempted suicide in our state. She claimed she could not live with the pain she was in and she claimed her physician was not treating her pain effectively. The physician received a call for the Medical Director of the Pain Management Division of the University Hospital where the patient was taken. They physician was "scolded" for failure to effectively control that patients pain.
I become to angry when I read post after post where a failed drug test resulted in the PMP or PCP refusing to treat the patient any longer. The patient is left helpless and in severe pain. I encourage you to get her into a pain management clinic or seek out another PCP asap. Take copies of the evidence that vanco may interfere with a drug test to the appt with your new physician.
Don't give up. I understand your wife's anger but she must locate another physician that will treat her. I know they are out there. Good luck and hang in there. Please let us know how you are both doing. Please take care of you too. Tuck
I am sorry I meant to say wife:)
Seeing anyone that is close to us in pain is horrible and we feel so helpless. We are here for you and I applaud you trying your best to be there and support your wife. All too often people in pain are overlooked because we can't see the pain but that does not mean it is not there.
I posted the drugs known to show a false negative. There is also another article about cut off levels in these test I will post. Mollyrae also has info in her journal.
It is indeed very hard to see our children or parents suffer. I am so sorry your in this position and your Mom is in so much pain. I certainly wish we could make our Dr's sign contracts with us like we do stating they would retest and give us the benefit of the doubt instead of first assuming that were guilty.
These are the drugs that will cause a false negitive.....
The reactivity of 13 quinolones (levofloxacin, ofloxacin, pefloxacin, enoxacin, moxifloxacin, gatifloxacin, trovafloxacin, sparfloxacin, lomefloxacin, ciprofloxacin, clinafloxacin, norfloxacin, and nalidixic acid) was tested in 5 commercial opiate screening assays from September 1998 to March 1999. In 6 healthy volunteers, we confirmed the cross-reactivity of levofloxacin or ofloxacin with these opiate screening assays. be positive, therefore some will and have failed these test. There is a member here that is a lab tech and can answer far more questions about this I will see if we can get him to reply
Hello. I am so sorry to here of your wife. I have posted an article on negative opiate drug screens. And yes, it can happen. It has something to do with certian drugs cancelling one or the other out. Please go to my Profile page. You can type in:
