what is codene?

Can anyone tell me what codene (spelling??) is?

I had dental work done yesterday and can barely open my  mouth today. I just called my dentist.  He said he was calling me codene in...then he asked if i ever took it. I said no...the only pain killers I have ever taken for dental work was vicodin and percocet.  He then said oh ok...consider it called in.

Assuming he calls me in codene...what is it???? Is it a pill? I thought it was cough syrup? I am confused.

I honestly think I need a degree to post on medhelp since about every other post results in either:

* Removal of post
* A fight
* Or someone taking issue with a legit question

I am not trying to *KNOW* about codeine like that.  How in the world could anyone read my post of me asking what it is and me saying im scared to go to the dentist tomorrow incase the pain is bad alter someone's recovering????????????????? Why should that be sent to pain management?  And, i can't get onto pain management from this computer. My work blocks about 99.9% of websites for one reason or another.

Please someone tell me how my question is uncool?

And my apologies IN ADVANCE to  anyone who is doing great in their recovery, been going to their meetings, taking their at home remedies to kick their habit THEN read my post and now is debating wether or not to  ruin their hard work thus far.  

People get on this site and talk about how they were doing GREAT so far / 90 days clean then messed up and took an oxy last night.  NOBODY says to take it else where. NOBODY says it is uncool.

Go back and read my posts.  Read the sadness, desperation, irritation, annoyance, grievance, etc of MY life of living with an addict. You really think I would say or do anything to anyone on here to mess up their recovery after the nonsense my bf puts me thru because of his addiction?

Hey chick - I had one of my molars pulled a month or so ago and I didn't need more than a few Aleves. (dude had to hold onto my jaw to yank this baby out!!) It was more sore than anything else... I know it probly hurts like he ll right now but it'll feel so much better once it's gone.

Avis-  Why is it not cool for her to ask this question here? Other people do all the time? We're the people she trusts... why wouldn't she be better off asking us?? Plus - people have posted alot worse... Just wondering, that's all!

My bad, Vicodin contains another pain killer:hydrocodone.Avisg is right, Advil should do it. Last month I had removed a wisdom tooth cause the cavity was too advanced and who cares for a wisdom tooth, right/ I asked what should be taken for pain and that I did not wanted any narcotics and the doc said Advil, to tell you the truth I used the Advil and I did not feel any pain at all.

Also being that most are trying to get of opiates this is really not a cool question to ask. Questions like this are better suited for pain management

Take advil along with the codeine you should be fine I. have had teeth pulled and only used advil anti inflammatories tend to work better for dental pain.
