Oh, and Margypops is right that it could definitely be an allergy or hypersensitivity to a particular food that is causing BOTH the reflux and the constipation. That, coupled with the asthma he has, it's ALL RELATED. Allergy can cause constipation. Constipation can cause reflux. Reflux can cause asthma. Perhaps a consultation with an Allergy/Asthma specialist might be warranted, following some bloodwork.
Hi,
Some kids just bruise easier than others, particularly if they are fair skinned. If you are truly concerned about leukemia, you should speak with his pediatrician for some blood tests.
As far as the reflux and constipation, they can sometimes go hand in hand. For instance, if the child is constipated and nothing is moving out, as stuff goes in there is no more room for it to go, and voila....reflux. Reflux is the backward movement of stomach contents into the esophagus. It makes perfect sense that horrible constipation could cause vomiting. Unfortunately, stomach contents include acid, which can be terribly painful. So painful that I can bet he is a very poor eater. And if he is a poor eater, his vitamins and minerals may be lower than normal, thus causing him to bruise more easily.
In my opinion, your best line of defense is to figure out how to manage his constipation. If he is doubled over in pain, he should see his doctor. He should also be started on something like Zantac or Prevacid to heal any damage and prevent any further pain from the reflux. Good luck to you.
I dont think you are over reacting, you are a concerned parent, reflux can be uncomfortable did they give him any meds for it ?
It seems to react to everything he eats, i mean he can eat the blandest food and he still has acid reflux. i know when he eats like tomato sauce foods and milk products he really has it. but it is all the time. he does great in school, i have informed his teachers that when he needs to go to the restroom he needs to because of the (yucky burbs) acid reflux.
We do have a leukemia forum on MH if you want to put the question there, How is he eating as some food allergy may account for the reflux, does he eat enough bulk and fruits ,veg that would account for constipation. How does he get on at school ?
