Do over!

Okay so a post I just wrote on some risks with induction didn't go over so well. My intention wasn't to hurt anyone, confuse them or make them fearful. So it was deleted (in case you're looking for it). I would rather be thought of as a wimp who deleted a post than for more women to read it and become fearful or confused or offended as I never posted it with that intention. Just didn't go over very well as some things in life go.

So anyway starting over. Instead of posting scary statistics I will be more conscious of being sensitive to you all and post only positives and more helpful information. I hope that is alright with you guys! Because I absolutely love finding and sharing wonderful information with you all, but only so long as no one gets hurt in the process.

I love all of you and your sweet little babies! I only want the best for us all, no matter what road we take on the journey to meeting our little ones. *HUGS*

I thought it was good too. Nothing in there was bad or wrong. Women need to well aware of the risks in everything. Too many assume their doctors know everything and they don't. That's why it's called a medical practice. Pregnancy and labour is nothing to sugar coat, and unnecessary interventions can lead to dangerous consequences. Of course this isn't always the case, but it's better to know everything involved and to be fully informed. Fact is, most women are not.

Hey Joy! I hope it wasnt me. I am glad to be reading all of this information. Its good to know, bc my midwife or even any ob gyn wont SIT YOU down to give you the statistics... Thats why its very good to hear and know what the truth of it all is. ESP when it comes down to momma and baby health. Thank You. I look forward to reading all of the posts you put up!

Okay since so many of you had no problem with it the post has been undeleted but the harassing and overly emotional responses (including my own) were deleted. We want to DISCUSS, not fight. I never once said induction was never necessary. I simply said, "Here are the risks... what do you think?" I appreciate valid responses that show BOTH sides so do continue the discussion over there! Positives and negatives totally welcome so long as we're not snapping at one another.

Clysta I chose yours as a best answer because your last couple sentences sum it up for me. They truly do. I happen to agree with everything you post here (if you hadn't noticed). Thank you for that!

And Chantal, as always you and I are like long-lost twins. I also agree wholeheartedly, especially with the last few sentences. And of course my heart still grieves with you over Jesse. I can only imagine, especially with all you've been through with him.

On a total different topic:

I got STEP TWO of the Birth Wishes series up at the natural forum:
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/GroupTrack-We-Want-a-Natural-Birth/Birth-Wishes-STEP-TWO-Labor-Options/show/1476757

It takes me about an hour to write each post so I'm going to start on the STEP THREE (Monitoring in Labor) and hopefully get 2 or 3 more steps up tomorrow (Drugs/Pain Relief, Delivery Preferences and Post Delivery Preferences will hopefully go up).

There are always 2 sides to every story. Personally, I didn't think anything was offensive in that post, but once again everyone is going to give their side and what has worked for them. We are all different and have different needs and should respect that of course. :)
Some are all for the natural side (like me, but that's my opinion) but I also know that things don't always go as planned either, and intervention is sometimes necessary. I had interventions with my second child (but was still able to delivery naturally), and I wasn't well informed with certain things and the drugs and shots that were given to me during pre-term labor. Do I think they worked or helped him stay in longer? I don't really know since I was still contracting every 5-15 min every day for weeks until he was born, but I wasn't sure what else to do. Now more than ever I wish to learn all I can about birth and when intervention is truly necessary. I don't look down on any woman who has to have inductions or c-sections because I know sometimes they are needed. And it's a great thing how far the medical community has come to ensure the safety of our precious babies if a problem were to arise.

Oh and I want to mention that as part of the Birth Wishes Series I WILL be talking about options for induction and cesarean births, which is why I invite you to come because you DO have options. The point is to have the safest delivery possible no matter how the birth is going to take place. A placenta previa (placenta covering the cervix) for example is a medical reason for a cesarean that is beyond a woman's control. But she can still have options and preferences, such as 'double suturing' which is a requirement from many hospitals if a woman wants to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) later on.

I am thinking about becoming a childbirth educator so I have been doing much research (and have been for the past couple years). This is my passion, to help women have birth safely whether it is natural or not. While I do advocate natural birth and options for it I am not naive to think that there aren't other ways to give birth and am entirely sensitive to that fact. So anyone is welcome to join my natural birth group so you can learn more!

No it wasn't you. ;-)  I'm glad I didn't offend you because I thought what I had posted in the comments to you may have offended you more than anyone else. I'm glad you took it at face value, which was me trying to help you and not dictate what you do or make you feel guilty. It's good to have a sounding board from time-to-time.

Good point on posting positives and negatives. Sometimes information needs to come from the bad statistics (like our ever-growing cesarean rate in America that desensitizes us to its absolutely serious risks). But for now I think I'll be posting more positive posts if they come up. This is a more pro-medical forum. For more information on natural birth you can join my group We Want a Natural Birth here:
http://www.medhelp.org/forums/GroupTrack-We-Want-a-Natural-Birth/show/1071?camp=msc

Even if you're having an induction or cesarean you can join in our Birth Wishes Series where we're working together to write our birth plans. I'll be posting the second and third part of the series this evening which discuss labor options and monitoring while in labor. I present the info and then the members pick and choose what they include in THEIR birth plan. You can also pipe in and provide other ideas because Lord knows I do NOT know everything. Even those getting induced or cesarean can have a birth plan; it is simply a list of your preferences regarding your care and baby's care provided there are not emergencies and complications (though you CAN list preferences in the case of emergency, such as "Baby will stay with my husband in the event of an emergency cesarean if I am knocked out with general anesthesia" for example).

I'd prefer to see the "scary" side of thing, that way if i was to take that path after reading that i feel more safer, I read the other post but never replied,

I watched a programme tonight called one born everyminute where the babies heartbeat dramatically slowed and even once stopped when she had a contraction, personally I need more stories and facts about this sort of thing, like what could go wrong in labour and with the choices I make, anyway lol I'll stop rambling now but I just thing being prepared for some of the "maybes" is better if Im making sence

Im really hoping your thoughts of affending someone wernt at me!!.
I thought it was great i had conflicting advice as the dr gave me. your info was very helpful and made me think alot about what im prepaired to do and i didnt know the risk involved as the dr was all to happy to go ahead and do it without me knowing ' the other side'.

You always do post great informant posts and i hope you continue to post such info to help us along our journeys...

Also i do believe instead of posting only positives you still need to post some negitives as well. both sides are always appreciated.. From me anyway..
