Depending on how far you are depends on the heartbeat.  I know that the doctors I saw at 6 to 6 1/2 weeks wanted to see a heartbeat of 110 or more.  However, the next week mine dropped from 110 to 76 then back up to 98 and I lost the baby.  However, that doesn't mean you will miscarry.  It is a good number it you should only consider a possible miscarriage if it drops any lower.  However there are no steps to take to prevent a miscarriage.  Keep us posted...also did the doctor seem concerned?  They would know more of where the heartbeat needs to be.  Did they reschedule another ultrasound in a week to make sure it's still going up?

There are no particular steps to take.  In the early weeks of pregnancy, except for avoiding obvious things that are dangerous (drinking, drugs, poisons, etc.) there is little enough that the mother can do.  It's all up to the embryo.  Good luck!
