A Star is Born, the original with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson
Brace yourself . . . I loved Xanadu with Olivia Newton John. OMG< that ages me and I was not very old when that came out but all of my friends loved it. Another is Flash Dance which was a dumb movie but the music lives on. My son's marching band's competition show is "Flash Dance"!!!
My liking for movie soundtracks doesn't necessarily connect that strongly to my liking for a movie. I think one of the best soundtracks ever written was Elmer Bernstein's soundtrack to The Magnificent Seven, but I'm not that keen on Westerns so it's not my favorite movie. I also liked the soundtrack for the various spaghetti Westerns -- A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly -- those were so evocative of an era (especially the first two) that it made the story almost like opera. Also liked the soundtrack for The Great Escape and The Bridge on the River Kwai, though, again, World War II movies are not my fave either.
