Weird strong breath?

hi,
i have a problem with this smell that comes out my nose and mouth. everytime i go somewhere, i dont even have to open my mouth before someone will cough, up to 10 feet away or even farther away it seems. i think that there is this smell that originates from my lungs. i cannot smell it and i asked my doctor if i had bad breath. she said no, and yet she also coughed when i was there. i think that my breath may be very strong but i dont know why only i have that strong smell. the only people in the world who dont cough or sniffle around me are my family because i think they have the same strong smell. ive heard people comment on it such as" oh something smells weird' or" something smells very strong".  plzzz help. ive also noticed that mouthwash will not cover the smell as people still cough like 10 minutes after i use it, and im soo sure that this is not body odor coming from my skin. i wash myself everyday with a wash cloth and my bed sheets are replaced very often. no matter what i eat or how many times i brush my teeth, people still end up coughing when i breathe out.
plzzzz help :)

I don't know much about that, except what I've seen on these forums.  It could be tonsil stones (tonsilloliths), a lung infection or fungus, or a gastrointestinal problem.  Maybe see a gastroenterologist.

hey, thanks for all that help. i think i tried the sinus flush but it doesnt work still. if i did it correctly, then the feeling after the sinus flush should be similar to after you do a flip turn in the water :) i think that the smell is coming from deep down the throat and maybe near the larynx. i tried drinking salt water to get down there but im not sure if its helping. im pretty sure my breath is not bad, its just strong and i know how it smells like because sometimes i can smell my brothers breath. i dont think gum or food or anything can cover this. do you know how to fix this?

Hi again.  I found another thread in the Allergy Forum.  If you see the post by Cassianna, on November 23, 2009, she has come to a similar, but better and more detailed conclusion about sinus infections, using Mayo Clinic research also.

Thank you for your post, otherwise I wouldn't have found this.

Boiled water works well, I recommend distilled because it's easier, with no irritating chemicals like my local water supply.

What I said is that "some" people have it as a result of sinusitis.  I have had a horrible smell in my nose with no other symptoms, although I don't know that other people could smell it, and I removed it with a sinus flush.  Some other people had a smell that other people could smell, and found out they had a blockage in their sinuses, like a cyst, that caused sinusitis pockets.

However, there are many people who have the horrible smell, have been to many many doctors, with no luck. If you do a sinus flush with no results after a week, then you are possibly in their group.  Here is their thread, from the Respiratory Forum:

do you think boiled tap water would suffice, instead of distilled water?

You're not a freak, in fact there are hundreds of people on this forum with the same problem.  With some it's a sinus infection, with others it's a mystery that no doctors can find.  I theorize it's some kind of yeast or fungus infection in many people, maybe not in the nose, but somewhere else in the body and the smell comes out through the breath.

Section 17 of this journal will tell you some of the finds of other sufferers.

The Flip-Turn Sinus Flush is mildly risky, because you have to bend over to do it, preferably in a shower, but you can also do it outside on soft ground, or you can kneel down and lean over a bathtub with the shower running.
