Hi huh123, how is your mother doing? Hope she is keeping well? Are those twitches still continuing? Has she consulted her doctor and got examined? What is the diagnosis and doctor advice? She needs to relax and take rest as much as possible. Physical and massage therapy would help. To know more about the rhythmic movements, go through this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythmic_Movement_Disorder
Most important thing is to overcome the stress and treat underlying cause if any. Do update on the neurophysician advice. Take care.
Hi huh123, how are you? Can you provide some more details regarding the twitches/jerks your mother going through - how often they occur and is it a continuous one or keeps repeating in an on and off pattern? Has any one observed whether these jerks do continue even after she falls asleep? Is there anything that is done or it stops on its own? Usually, hypnic - sleep jerks or twitches are normal and can occur while tend to fall asleep or when try to wake up from sleep. She might also be probably suffering from severe stress and anxiety, which can also be a trigger factor and probably be having Rhythmic movement disorder. Do try to overcome the stress and relax. Physical therapy, body massage, regular stretches and warm bath before sleep can be helpful. Avoid excessive coffee/tea and alcohol. It is better to consult a neurologist and sleep specialist for further evaluation. Take care of your mother and update on progress.
