DOUBLE VISION POST STROKE

Two weeks ago my husband had another stroke, the first was just over a year ago.  This time he has been left with double vision, damage to the nerve which supplies blood to the muscle of his left eye was confirmed after MRI.  His opthalmolagist and orthopist just said it may or may not return to normal offering no further assistance.  I have read on line that exercise can help.
Has anyone else been left with double vision post stroke?
Has it returned to normal after time?
Has anyone been offered exercise as a treatment, and did it work?
Any advice would be appreciated, this is a massive blow, the first stroke left my husband with walking difficulties, but at least he could still get about because he could still drive, now his world has shrunk even further because he cannot drive now. He is 64 years young,

Thank you Susan for taking the trouble to respond. Thankfully the double vision seems to have righted itself, there is a small amount of nystagmus, we are hopeful that will also deminish over time.
Now if we could just get hubby walking without falling over :)
Thank you
Cate

Double vision, eye muscle damage, dry eye, and not closing were problems for me after my stroke.  I had eye muscle surgery which failed, used thick eye drops many times a day, and used a prism in my glasses which did help with the double vision.
I opted to finally get a "tarsorraphy" which is a procedure that sews the eyelids together.  For me I opted for a permanent one, and haven't had any trouble with it since.
I think though using a prism is non-invasive, and works well.

Take care,
Susan
