Is the pressure/choking feeling in throat constant?

Hi.  Just wondering .. for those that have had or have that choking, pressure or thumb pressing into  your neck feeling ... does it feel like that constantly or just intermittently (sp?!).

For me it usually starts in the afternoon and gets worse as the evening goes on.  When i wake up in the morning, it's much much better.

So I am wondering is it acutally my thyroid (I do know it's slightly enlarged and a small nodule) or is it something else.

Thanks!!!!

i get all of your symptoms, i am on meds for gerd in the morning i take a pill and now at night also, NOTHING helps. Two docs have said they think its Globus sensation also known as Globus Hystericus?.. its when muscle spasms and makes u feel the choking sensation. However i feel the choking or the feeling of someone pressing their finger on my lower right side of neck. I am going to ask for an operation that tightens the sphincter which is supposed to prevent acid backflow...and to answer the neck pain yep!! muscle pain and migraines

I have been reading the posts here and while I don't have the pressure feeling I do have the throbbing in the left side of the neck at night when in bed and only at that time. What gives?
I was diagnosed hypothyroid in January2012 and have been on 75mcg of levothyroxine ever since. I just got my first post diagnosis labs back and I am at 1.75 now when I was at 8.66 before meds.
I've had the throbbing for sometime and began to wonder if it was hypertension but my BP is perfect. 102/60. So could this be due to the hypothyroidism?

I have had this "choking sensation" for about a year now.  It feels as if someone is pressing their thumb against my throat.  I do not choke nor have acid problems.  When it gets bad, my blood pressure goes up due to the distress feeling it gives.

When I went to my Dr. initially she stated it was panic attacks.  I begged to differ, so she put me on bp meds, which help the throbbing I get in my stomach & lowered my bp, however it did not help the choking sensation.

I have had thyroid tested thru blood.  Nothing unusual except vitamin d levels were very, very, very low.  It's my understanding that a thyroid test thru the blood is not accurate.??

I am feeling very fatigued and am also having sudden onset of joint pain & stiffness.  Once I get up moving around, it works itself out for the most part.

I had a endoscopy and it only showed some inflammation in the stomach.  The gastrologist put me on Nexium which thus far has not helped.

She also had me take a sleep test in which I will get the results tomorrow.  I really don't think this is the problem.  I also don't know how much longer I can take this.  It is affecting my work & life.   Any other suggestions?

Hi, hope some of you can be of some help....I am currently 22 weeks pregnant, and was told today that i have 6mm (about half a centimeter) nodule on my thyroid. (But my thyroid levels were okay thus far). I was feeling what i thought was (and still may be) acid reflux due to pregnancy because of the weird sensation (not painful, just pressure) when swallowing. (I do get occasional heartburn and a sour taste in my mouth). My symptoms are the same as some of yours: When I wake up in the morning, my throat also feels pretty good, almost "normal." Maybe a bit phlegmy....as the day increases and I eat/drink, I almost instantly have that "lump in throat" feeling. Some days it sticks around, others it almost disappears. ALSO....I have severe anxiety from this and did go off my Zoloft since becoming pregnant. My doctor (who is not a specialist in this area) says my throat feeling like this is more than likely due to some acid reflux and anxiety and not to the nodule, I am assuming she is saying this because my nodule is pretty small. I will soon have an appt. with another doctor upon which he will hopefully biopsy it. I guess my question is, have any of you experienced these symptoms while having acid reflux and/or thyroid nodules and/or stress?? Of COURSE my throat is really bad right now as this is the most stressed and anxious I have been in a very long time....!!  Sorry to go on but I am just looking for some reassurance. Thanks in advance....
