One day at a time. Everyone recovers at a different pace. You are doing the right thing by resting when you need to. It took about 4 - 6 weeks for my taste buds to get back to normal. Good luck.

I often feel like it is a chore to put one foot ahead of the other. So I just rest and start in again latter. I know people work, take are of a family and still go through these procedures and manage. I am retired and only have to look after me. Maybe it is my age that is making it tough? It seems like everyday something hurts like my head or neck or hips or lower back which is all very unusual for me. I just keep thinking I must move it or lose it and it will all take time.
I am only 13 days post RAI and the naste bud issue seems to be getting worse. The amount of saliva seems to be about the same. I think sucking on lemon drops is suppose to aid that problem. I probably will be better off if I never eat chips and bread again wgt. wise but I sure hope I will be able to taste other things someday. No I don't have trouble with any food except taste but you remind me that I am not drinking enough water. You are the first I have heard mention lose of saliva glands 6 mo. post RAI.
Do you have the same amount of saliva as before RAI? I find that I can't eat things like chips or bread easily. I gave up on chips, which is fine anyway, but must drink water with any bread or similar food. I have permanent damage to my saliva glands from the RAI. This did not start until 6 months after RAI.
Trish
Thanks.
When my doctor called after the scan, she simply reported on the findings and reminded me to start synthroid, get blood drawn in 6 wks and that is when she would see me.
So that indicates to me she did not see a concern.
Now when I get my taste buds back and lose this extra wgt, I will be good to go hopefully. I was prepared for the lose of taste but do not understand why the texture of crunchy things like crackers and chips seem like they are stale to me and they don't appear that way to others. Does the RAI also affect the actual teeth?
