There was a couple on the new Acella last fall I think. Never came back to tell us.

The dessicated meds call all react different for the same person due to different formulations and fillers. That is what affects absorbing. That is why some of us bother with Erfa, we tried the rest and this was best for us, it was obvious after the change.

You have to try them yourself to know. That is the only way unfortunately.

My comment on Acella NP Thyroid is this: After all my trials and tribulations in trying to figure out what happened to me starting the summer of 2010, when suddenly I lost 20 lbs, had weird joint pains, migraines and many other problems including going nuts at a certain point---I ended up on compounded thyroid med about a year ago as a doctor said I must have had a bad reaction to the new Armour- thing is, I was ON the new Armour and doing fine for a year. I couldn't get it where I live and was having it shipped down to me. As soon as it was available here, I started getting it here and that is when my problems started. A few of you here were very kind in trying to help me figure it out. While I do believe I was having some adrenal problems from prolonged stress the big thing was, how could I lose so much weight and have so many problems out of nowhere? I still don't really know how, after lowering the doses ended up hypo and way underweight, but as of today I know Walgreens was giving me Acella NP Thyroid in place of Armour and did not inform me and somehow I did not notice, as it says THYROID at the top of the bottle. It is the one thing that changed when all my problems started back then and a couple of months ago my levels were a tad low on the compounded, so i added 1/4 to 1/2 grain of what I still thought was Armour (but really acella) and started to lose weight quickly again and felt a bit nuts also...I have yet to find anyone with similar experiences to mine but wanted to throw my two cents in about Acella NP Thyroid....and yes, we are all different- what works for one may make another sick!

"so i added 1/4 to 1/2 grain of what I still thought was Armour (but really acella) and started to lose weight quickly again and felt a bit nuts also."

- Could you have been experiencing hyperness from adding the 1/4 - 1/2 grain?

Yes, I had thought of that, and took the 1/4 grain off but had been feeling somewhat hypo and now at about 2 weeks off that extra 1/4 feeling VERY hypo, so tired. I feel like an *** also....I checked with my pharmacy today and sure enough, I was on Armour Thyroid when i started having problems back in 2010, I was praying it was this Acella that they had been giving me then, but apparently not. It might have explained a lot. I may have to start a new thread as I need to figure out what to get on now as I cannot afford the compounded thyroid I have been on anymore and no idea where to turn! What I went though in 2010 scared the hell out of me, lost 20 lbs and went crazy for no apparent reason.

I should have stated "hypo symptoms" in addition to weight loss and feeling a bit crazy. As of right now, I have joint pain, boils- feel groggy all the time. And this is on 3 grains of compounded, when I had been on 2 grains of armour for 5 years until 2011.

Since this thread is dedicated peoples experience to NP Thyroid, I would like to clarify your comment above so in the future others will not be confused.

You were NOT on Acella NP Thyroid when you felt thyroid symptoms, but you were on Armour during that time?

Note for all reading this: It is import to look at the pills themselves when getting natural thyroid from Target or Walgreens, as some stores will call both "thyroid".

thank you,
LM

The plot thickens...YES, it is VERY important to look at your pills and know what they are supposed to look like! In 2010, I was on ARMOUR when I started to have problems but wasn't sure about that until today.NOW, even though I have a bottle marked Acella NP Thyroid and had added a 1/4 to 1/2 grain to the compounded I am taking currently, there is ARMOUR in the bottle. To get this straight: I have a bottle clearly marked Acella NP Thyroid that has Armour Thyroid in it- 1 grain with an A and TE on it-- my pharmacy got lazy!!! I had gotten an extra refill so as to have plenty on hand when I was to go off of compounded and I looked in the bottle in my cupboard stashed away and it was the real Acella!! I have been up and down and all around trying to figure all this out. Yesterday I was cursing Acella and today I am ready to try it. Acella by the way, is light brown with an AP on one side and a number on the other, in this case, 1grain is 330 and I can see why some find it easy to disolve under tongue. Sorry about all the confusion...it is the story of my life this past year or so and should bee a cautionary tale to all!!!

Thank you for the clarity.

At this point in this thread, there is no reason not to try "Acella NP Thyroid" natural thyroid med.

I do know someone that changed from Canadian ERFA to Acella (for ease of availability) 6 months ago. This individual says it is working great for them and also takes it sublingually just like B.R. Armour (Before Reformulation in 2009 ) and current Erfa. It has dextrose as a filler and devolves very easily in the mouth / cheek / under tongue.

Note: Walgreen also use to interchange Armour with Nature Throid brand names without advising the consumer. They tried that on me once. We need to look up what are meds are supposed to look like on the web!

I think I will try it, although not sure if there is a conversion situation. I was on 2grains of Armour for 5 years, when  switched to Compounded, I had to go up to 3 grains, which is what I am on now, and I feel hypo. I do intend to try the Acella now and will most certainly update this board as to how it works for me. I still have a sneaking suspicion that my adrenals have been involved at different times, but no way of knowing thanks to no insurance and really really bad doctors! Sorry for the confusion!

Compound grains will not always correlate with manufactured grain sizes of natural thyroid. All trial and error.

Adrenals:

Best test to show function is saliva 24 hour test. About $150 online or at some chiropractors that dabble as natural path Drs.

Shows function at morning, noon late afternoon and 11 PM. MD's do not acknowledge this test, not trained in this area.

I did it, and not surprisingly I felt "off" at the same times the test said I was low. This was going on for months before I got the test, so it wasn't a placebo effect.

I will keep all of that in mind and may wait a month to switch over as I may be starting a new job. I imagine I would start Acella at 2 grains and see how that feels. I will also keep in mind testing adrenals should I have problems again in the future. Thanks!

Just remember, changing from one natural to another might not be 'streamlined'.

You'll make a great lab experiment!

Kevin, may I ask what dose you started at on Acella yesterday? I am also on 3 grains of compounded and curious as to how you are approaching the change over. Thanks!

I may be a guinea pig along with you! So what dose did you start Acella on? The same dose as your compounded? I just want to be clear! Thanks!
