please tell me I am not alone

For about 2 weeks I have just been feeling horrible. It started with really bad anxiety. The following are my symptoms: shaky, heart palpitations, lightheadedness, weight loss, decreased appetite, increased bowel movements (about 4-5/day), constant panic attacks. I just feel like something is "ON" inside my body and I can't turn it off. I tend to feel worse at night. When I lay down to go to bed I get the palpitation more and start to get more shaky and anxious. I went to the ER last week and they ran some labs. They said that my TSH was normal but that my T4 was high. He said that it could be hyperthyroidism but that I need to see my PCP. They gave me beta blockers for the palpitations but they don't seem to help so much. I have an appointment on thursday with my PCP but it just seems like so far away. Is this what hyperthyroidism is about? I can't stand the constant anxiety and nervousness and the almost nightly panic attacks. Could I have hyperthyroidism if my TSH was normal but my T4 was high? Please someone help me. I feel so alone and lost right now. I just want to feel like "myself" again. I'm finding it very hard to function every day.

No, you are NOT alone.  I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about a year ago & about a month ago, started to have chest pounding & heart palpitations.  Went to ER, EKG was normal, but Potassium was very low, not sure if related, but anyway, I am waiting for my appt with the cardio.  I assume it will all be normal, but can't be too careful.  I also felt like I was dying on a couple of occasions.  I feel a little better reading your concern as it gives me hope that I will live.  Take care of yourself & know that others are out here feeling your pain.

You certainly need better test than what you got at the ER

Call the PCP and get in on an emergency appointment to get the process going.

Also, I forgot to mention that when I get the heart palpitations at night I feel like I am going to die. They did an EKG at the ER and it came out normal. I just keep thinking that I have some kind of heart condition. I can't stand feeling like this.
