Nipple sensitivity

Hello, i have a strange question for anyone out there! I had my baby girl 4 months ago, i breastfed for a few weeks, but not long. Now i have one nipple that is extremely sensitive and gets hard for no reason, it feels like when you get ready to breastfeed, they get hard and swolen and they are sensitive. When i get in the shower and the hot water hits it, it gets really hard and sticks out like they do when you feed.  There is no discharge, no red areas, no rash and no lumps that i can feel. I have no idea what is causing this, has anyone out there had anything similar to this?
Thanks for any replys!
Kris

I think I had a couple periods before the hormones settled down...I found during that time I had pretty pronounced PMS as well (but that could have been sleep deprivation too...LOL) By 6 months, all was normal again except for the maddening 10 lbs of pregnancy weight I never did lose...:) Hang in there! if you get a fever, or the area becomes hot and reddened, see a Dr...Enjoy your baby girlie...They grow so fast...Oh, something I'm really glad I did (has nothing to do with the question!)...I took pictures of my daughter's favorite toys with her playing with them...Nearly 10 yrs later, these remain a precious part of her "first years" scrapbook..(((((((((((((((((HUGZ)))))))))))  ~Melinda

I experienced something similar when my daughter was 3 months...Shortly after that my periods started again...So, I'm thinking it was hormonal adjustments happening...(I breastfed too...) Here's a thought...(Don't shoot me!) Is there a chance you are pregnant again? :)
