Rubbing sound/sensation in lower throat/upper chest

For the past four years, I've experienced a strange rubbing sound/sensation in my lower throat/upper chest area.  It occurs only whenever I twist my torso from side to side, such as when exercising, or quickly turning to the side via pivoting at the waist.  It feels & sounds like something is causing friction.  I cannot pinpoint where it is coming from, but it seems to be my lower throat/upper chest, somewhere around collarbone level.  It seems to be located within the windpipe or esophagus.  There's no pain, just a friction/rubbing sound and sensation.  The sound is especially audible if I open my mouth while twisting my torso.
Three years ago I saw my Dr about it and she ordered a chest CT scan, which was clear.  My concern is that the scan began at lung level and didn't cover my lower throat area, and that's where I think this is coming from.  I'm also concerned because since then, it has become much more pronounced...I used to only hear/feel it when I was rotating vigorously (like when doing aerobic workout), but now I hear/feel it whenever I'm simply doing daily activities and happen to turn or twist at the waist.
Any thoughts on what this may be, or the cause?
I have no sore throat or hoarseness or any other throat/esophagus symptoms.  I do have very occasional heartburn that responds easily to Zantac.
Thank you very much.

From what you describe you sound like you "live" with exactly the same problems I have.
Male 31, on pain meds every day,
Started when i was about 13-14. Upper back between shoulder blade just used to BURN and ache.

now recently. "this twisting side to side, with my arms in a crossed arm fashion out front. i get this weird exhaling sound and i have this strange rubbing ( hard to describe feeling right in the middle to the right a bit of my chest.

I quit smoking cigarettes quiet a few months ago. started coughing up the black stuff as my lungs cleared out the tar/carbon etc. then this got me thinking it was something with my Lung.
I couldnt be sure but my shoulder is in constant pain. I think i have a tweaked/pinched nerve or something there's a line of tendons or something between by right shoulder blade and my spine I can push it "grinds side to side"

So strange. if i have my mouth open. but hold my breath it makes that sound. hah. weird

I was wondering if this was a "acid" eating away at our chest. from heart burn. because im sure theres something in the food. the "wheat" has been f***ked with. now anyone who eats pasta/weetbix/bread etc. gets reflux. even drinking because they use a new sweetner derived from wheat which your body treats as sugar. brings on the same symptons.  so is this all related to ACID REFLUX. my father has the same problem. recently he was diving and came up couldnt breathe and coughed up blood has a "dodgy valve in his heart" but he has always had "acid" problems with his gut. I remember the doctor telling him he couldnt drink anymore. but then he found a certain type of gum that obviously was like an antacid. so. im puttin my "BET" on acid reflux atm. related to "wheat" intake or allergies developed over "strain" and dna change thereof.

hope this isnt to over the top.

1st post. just signed up to post here. because this is what im going through exactly.

I can tell you right now that this is definitely not due to smoking. I stumbled upon this when I was 15 or 16 practicing a karate routine in my bedroom with the exact same symptoms (the noise, a feel of lack of breath when done too many times in a row, and the action irritating/tickling my throat slightly). It scared the **** out of me. I'm now 20 and the same thing still happens. Up until 19, I hadn't smoked a single cigarette, and I currently smoke about twice every six months only socially. My parents did smoke as a child however, so I don't know if that could affect this. I also believe it couldn't be due to chiropractic problems because I just recently had my entire spine adjusted and fixed due to back pain and still had the "wheezing" problem on my last day of my initial adjustment program as well as today, about a month later.

To be honest, it just sounds like something pressing on my lungs as I twist, and forcing air out of them. I don't know how possible that is, or what the likeliness of that actually is (I'm on the smaller side with a naturally small build--so it seemed likely to me when I was trying to figure this out mid-high school years--and if everyone else is athletic, it fits the mold).

However, I'm just really glad that I'm not the only person with this problem and that it doesn't seem to cause any prolonged damage, or seem to be unhealthy at all (considering I've had it for 4/5 years of my life now and am doing perfectly fine). I've yet to mention it to anybody, but I think next time I'm at the doctor's I will to see if he has anything to say.

I smoked from age 18 to 31 (quit about 9 months ago). I have had the EXACT same experience as all of you (the rubbing sound that I noticed a few weeks ago, no pain, but no cough etc). If it is from smoking, what will it develop into? Doesn't it mean there is something? Otherwise the noise wouldn't be there~

hi everyone, i have had these symptoms of a scraping sound when i twist my body. i mentioned it to my doctor and she said it is just wear and tear! scared the **** out of me when i first heard it, that was about 5 years ago. sometimes i feel though it interferes with my breathing and it is moving higher up. i still don't like it and it worries me but the doc never seemed to make anything of it when i demonstated the noise to her. she too accused me of breathing when i was in fact holding my breath so she could hear the noise.  i too have also been an active person all through my life and am of slim build.

I am a 21 year old male, non-smoker.  I have had asthma almost my entire life.  In recent years I have noticed this same raspy/scratching noise when I move my shoulders.  I tend to notice it if I have recently had asthma symptoms, especially if I have been exposed to air pollution (from traffic congestion for instance).  If I don't have asthma symptoms for several weeks, the noise seems to go away.
