Upper left quadrant swelling

I have had large swelling in my upper left quadrant for a few months.  It is located directly under my left breast, above my ribs.  It can be seen easily with the naked eye and is about as large as a tennis ball with almost a bean shape.  It feels like it is filled with liquid.  When it is touched or something presses against it; it causes a lot of pain that radiates down my side.  I have had multiple tests including a CT and ultrasound but no one knows what it could be.  Has anyone expereinced this before?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
At times MRI picks up a soft tissue mass better than a CT scan and if CT was inconclusive, then go for MRI before a needle is poked in. Also you could show the CT scan films to another radiologist for a second opinion. How you interpret CT films depend a lot on expertise of the radiologist. Take care!

I think an MRI would show them what is IN the sac before they go poking it. God forbid it be a parasite and they accidently release it INTO your body.

They should have been able to determine if it was solid tissue or fluid filled based on the CT and ultrasound.  The MRI will provide more detail though.  And the more detailed the better when dealing with weird lumps of unknown origins!!!!

It sounds like all the tests are leading up to removal, but doctor's are gathering details first.  Corner your doctor and ask him point blank what his theories are and what he's looking for.  I hate it when doctors do the "just making sure" thing.... pffblt

It is between the skin and ribcage.  They are suggesting an MRI but I think they just have no idea.  Everything they thought it could be would have been shown on a CT or ultrasound.  Not sure what the MRI would show at this point.  At times I think they should just stick a needle in it and see what comes out! I wonder if I should be seeing a specialist, but don't know what kind!

No - I've never experienced it before, but why in the good lord hasn't it been removed?? D=

Is it between the skin and the ribcage?  or is it physically under the ribcage, like where you spleen is?
