The symptoms of hernia include bulge or swelling, pain which may be localized, generalized or referred, nausea and/or Vomiting, constipation and urinary Symptoms. Strangulated hernia is an irreducible hernia in which the entrapped intestine has its blood supply cut off. It is a surgical emergency and Pain is always present, followed quickly by tenderness and sometimes symptoms of bowel obstruction (nausea and vomiting).

Depending on where the hernia is at it can give different symptoms.
When I had an inguinal incarcerated hernia. I had swelling and pain on the right side. This would be worse when I sneezed or coughed, lifting or bending. Pain can be constant or on and off.
I also have a hiatus hernia. This is a part of the stomach that is herniated. With it I have acid reflux, buning sensation and nausea at times.
