Blood in urine ?

Hello.I'm 22 years old and I recently made an urine exam.During the analysis they found blood ( 25 and the reference was 0-10).I tend to have UTI , like painful urinating , even drops of blood sometimes but they go away without being treated.
These couple of days I'm experiencing this symptoms again.I did another urine test and again there was a blood and my protein's level was higher than usual.
I was given medicine to treat UTI but I'm still worried since this condition repeats.
I would like to mention that a month ago I made tests  to check my kidney's function and everything was fine.

I'm worried because I read all these posts about bladder and kidney's cancer.

Thank you for your post.I already checked my creatinine level and everything was fine.Today I have low back pain but it doesn't seem to be coming from the kidney. Also my leg is numb  and I have low fever (around 37).
My painful urination is gone and the urine color seems to be more normal.

Do you think it's something serious?
I'm still waiting for the urine culture results.

Thanks again

I have been Showing Protein Positive in dip test at my PCP and Blood presence of 50-100 since 2002.  This happens almost on a monthly or 3 weeks basis.  My tests are never done during or close to my menstrual cycle so we know it's not from that.  I am recently went to a urologist and he is going to test me on Feb. 25th with a catch through the urethra?. ... He is using a scope to go in and see what is happening.  I have had a few episodes of sincopes when I have passed urine during these years and also I have lower back pain in addition to lower abdomen (pelvic) pain.  In Nov. of 2008 I thought I had like apendicitis because I could not even sit with the pain I had.  I was told at the ER, after a catscan and blood/urine test, it could be cistitis and then treated for UTI.  I have many UTI's during the course of one year more than 3 or 4 at least.  Can you shed some light on my confusion.  I am not one of those people that gets worked up over results or possibilities but not knowing makes me very inpatient.  Please help.  Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Blood in urine or hematuria with burning pain while urinating, is usually a sign of infection. Infection can be in the kidney, bladder, ureters and urethra. Presence of blood and high protein in urine is an indication of renal impairment.

I would suggest that you get a serum creatinine level and a check of 24 hour urine protein level to determine the exact level of protein and there by the level of damage to the kidney due to recurrent infections. Tumors in the urinary tract usually present with a painless bleeding in the tract.
Consult a urologist for further assistance.
Best.
