Diagnosed with 9mm cyst on Kidney

I was diagnosed with a cyst on my kidney about 9mm after a microscopic hemuturia was found in my urine. I have had a CT scan, then a sonogram and then my urologist after being away for a week sends me out for an MRI and a kidney function BUN Creatine blood test ( Which came back normal)  If they found a cyst on my kidney, why is he sending me out for another MRI? Are they not telling me something? I feel like my doctors are holding back on something yet my GP and the radiologist have looked and said it was a cyst. I'm not in pain and there is no visble blood in my urine are they just trying to cover their behinds or is there more that I just don't know about?

I'm 30, non-smoker, occasional drinker, 5'5" 160, fairly active, my grandfather had a kidney tumor and my mother has a simple kidney cyst.

I'm sorry you have to go through all this! I can only imagine how tiring it must be. I suggest you take the cystoscopy to get it done and maybe get a second opinion... or just take a second opinion first.

Best of luck! :)

No - I was told that I can elect to have a cystoscopy or wait 3 months and leave a sample again since my last 2 urine results just showed the microscopic blood in the urine and nothing further. I am leaning towards the 3 month plan and during the vist with my urologist, when we went over this, he said that the chocie is mine. I left him a sample that day and it showed blood in the urine (of course) and then he called me and changed his mind saying I should get the cystoscopy done.

He has told me he doesn't plan on finding anything due to age and that I'm a non smoker. Plus the MRI showed nothing and he is not worried about my kidneys anymore.

Hi

A 9 mm cyst is fairly less than a centimeter and may need more enhanced imaging to ascertain if this may  indeed be a cyst at all.Your physicians just wanted to make sure of the findings in the previous scan.

Usually an ultrasound may be a good enough test for screening renal cysts. If the physicians suspect something or want a clearer view, they request for a CT scan or MRI.
There is reason to be relieved by now. Simple cysts need no further evaluation.

Microscopic hematuria may be due to a kidney disease, urinary tract stones or bladder involvement. Were your doctors able to further evaluate this given that a renal cyst has been eliminated?

Turns out the MRI was normal....I'm going to him for a follow up exam.

WTF? The CT scan shows a cyst and the MRI shows I'm normal? Very Confusing.

Yes with my recent experience with kidney issues, i think doc need to listen to us more, we know our bodies better than they do. although I did have a couple small cysts and was told it was okay/normal.

I'm learning you need to be pushy w/doctors and also request copies of all your scans!! Other than that I don't know too much!! Good luck!
