Gross Hematuria in urine

I began seeing blood in my urine over a month ago.  I would see blood on the tissue paper when I would dry myself.  I began to catch the urine to look at it.  I have never experienced this bloody urine though. It seemed to separate, and have like a white tissue substance in it.  I had been having pain in my lower pelvic region.  I have had too many kidney stones to count, some I have had to have surgery for.  The blood continued it became rusty looking, it eventually looked like I had tinkled a glass of tea. I was not running a fever.  Off and on for a couple of weeks with the blood, still now, on occasion I will have the bloody urine.  I am 41 and have not had my period for 6 months the Dr. wanted to do a inside ultrasound to see if the uterine wall had thickened he said it could eventually become cancerous if you don't have periods (I had a  6 month gap last year).  My insurance has now terminated so now I'm left with the internet.  I was on a ventilator, dialysis, my liver failed, my whole body shut down in January. Was wondering if perhaps maybe this could be something to do with my kidneys.  I was given 5% chance of survival at best.  Was called "Miracle Girl" (Old Lady) All my organs went down.  But my kidneys came back the kidney doc was so excited she said back to 100%.  Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

Thank you so much for you comments!  I started my periods at age 12.  The gyn ruled out peripausal (sp) which was what I thought was going on for a while with not having my periods, however I'm sure it's the shock my body went thru in Jan, then last May I had robotic heart surgery to repair a hole in my heart, no periods.  However, the blood was definitely coming from the urine, no bloody discharge or blood of any sort from vagina.  When I wiped with tissue I would even try to specifically wipe the very most front part, I know, not exact science.  I have thought about some of those UTI test sticks I have seen advertised on the web, funds are limited, excruciatingly so, any ideas on what type of home tests would clue me in a bit or just chill?  Thank you for your time.

Hi,

The first thing to find out is if the blood is really from the urine or is merely contaminated by vaginal blood. If you had a life threatening disease, such stress may indeed delay your bleeding periods, and you may only be having spots of blood instead of flow. An internal examination and an ultrasound would be helpful. Since you have had a 6 month gap before, then this may not be so surprising. At what age did you start having menses? Women who start young (8 to 10 yo) may also reach menopause before 45 yo., so the gaps may also speak of approaching menopause.

If the bleeding is definitely coming from the urine, a urinalysis with RBC morphology would be helpful. The shape/ morphology of the blood cells gives an idea of where the bleeding site is, in order to guide further investigation.

The kidney has a wonderful capacity to heal itself, stay positive.
