How safe is it to use Elidel on the penis skin?

Elidel is NOT a steroid cream, it is a skin-selective inflammatory cytokine inhibitor, therefore it does not cause any skin atrophy. However, how safe is it to use on the head of the penis for a couple weeks on normal skin? On the instructions it says for short-term use only, yet does not define what that would be! What time frame (in exact number of consecutive days) using twice daily, can Elidel be safely used on the penis skin without likely causing any side effects? 10 days? 2 weeks? A month? Please help!

I appreciate the response doctor, however what side effects are you speaking of then? And in your opinion, do you think 2 weeks would be considered a "safe" time period to test it out on the penis skin?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

Well, the decision for use of the ointment on sensitive regions such as the penile skin and the duration of the therapy is best decided by your treating dermatologist since the ointment does not come free of side effects either. Though the medication can be used safely in most cases for a few days/ weeks, usually the benefits/ indication of prescribing the medication should exceed the risks associated. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating dermatologist.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
