I have polyuria and nocturia, but my bladder is hypotonic (bladder capacity normal). I think I have mild diabetes insipidus. In tests my nocturnal urine volume was about 1.5 liters (up to 5 times of urination).

Hi,

Nocturnal urinary frequency is defined as the frequency of urination during sleep, not counting the morning void.
The causes of nocturnal urinary frequency can be classified into nocturnal polyuria, decreased nocturnal bladder capacity and mixed type.

Differentiation of the cause and assessment as to whether the problem is part of aging will need to  be based on history and further investigation to identify the cause.

Usually nocturnal urinary frequency can be due to decreased bladder capacity. This is due to the fact that the bladder capacity decreases with age, though the amount of urine produced does not increase.

Investigation of causes specific to the prostate and the bladder (cancer or scarring) can be used to aid diagnosis.

Do keep us posted on your doubts.
Regards.
