Hope you have a good surgery and an uncomplicated recovery.
Hi Dr Smitha, thank you very much for enlighting my worries.
Apparently my local specialist did not mentioned anything about Krishnamurthi penile dermal flap surgery. What he did mentioned I guess is the Nesbit surgery which he called as stiching and the other is by grafting, taking a vein from my leg to replace the infected one on my penile and both will have disadvantages as I've mentioned earlier.
I'll be meeting the specialist again on 19/9/08 for a decision on which option of operation should I choose. I will indeed request him to go thru with me further on your recomendation.
You've been a great help, appreciate it. Once again, thank you..
Regards/ Razali
Hi,
If curvature of the penis appears at a later stage of life, Peyronie's disease can be suspected. This is a condition where there is the deposition of scar tissue within a layer of the penis causing the muscle and body of the penis to shrink at that area. The change will not be obvious in the flaccid state but becomes prominent and is a condition where the curve will keep increasing as the disease progresses.
The treatment for this condition in the initial stages is with medications but once the curve has increased to over 30 degrees from the normal, surgical intervention is required to maintain normal function. Treatment can involve Nesbit's surgery where the part of the penis on the opposite side from the curve is cut out and the penis is straightened, but the length is shortened based on the degree of the curve. Another surgery called krishnamurthi penile dermal flap operation has also been used in treating Peyronie's disease and minor curvature of the penis. The length of the penis is usually not shortened in this procedure.
Do keep us posted on any further doubts in this regard.
