Penis curvature

Hi Doctors & Medical communities, I'm a male 50yrs of age. About 8mths ago I've started noticing my penis bend downward went its erect and since then it gradually got worst. I've consulted a specialist. Recently went thru blood test and ultra sound. Result of test> blood flow was normal also at penis but totesteron was low @8.6 and there is an infected vein at the bottom part of my penis which causes the bend. Dr sugested me to have an operation giving 2 option> (1) To perform grafting, replacing the infected vein, but my penis will be half inch shorter and there is 20% chance that the next time my penis erect it would not last long. The 2nd option> is to perform stiching at the top length of my penis so that it will become strait when it get erected, but this will shorten my penis by one full inch and I will have a longer period of erection. I've a strong feeling that with this method I will feel very stressful and pain each time I get erected cause its been artificially pull back to get it straiten.
Apreciate very much if the doctor or any medical community can give their expert opinion and any best alternertive sudgestion towards my matter. Thank you and I do look forward to a reply.

Hi Dr Smitha, thank you very much for enlighting my worries.

Apparently my local specialist did not mentioned anything about Krishnamurthi penile dermal flap surgery. What he did mentioned I guess is the Nesbit surgery which he called as stiching and the other is by grafting, taking a vein from my leg to replace the infected one on my penile and both will have disadvantages as I've mentioned earlier.

I'll be meeting the specialist again on 19/9/08 for a decision on which option of operation should I choose. I will indeed request him to go thru with me further on your recomendation.

You've been a great help, appreciate it. Once again, thank you..

Regards/ Razali

Hi,

If curvature of the penis appears at a later stage of life, Peyronie's disease can be suspected. This is a condition where there is the deposition of scar tissue within a layer of the penis causing the muscle and body of the penis to shrink at that area. The change will not be obvious in the flaccid state but becomes prominent and is a condition where the curve will keep increasing as the disease progresses.

The treatment for this condition in the initial stages is with medications but once the curve has increased to over 30 degrees from the normal, surgical intervention is required to maintain normal function. Treatment can involve Nesbit's surgery where the part of the penis on the opposite side from the curve is cut out and the penis is straightened, but the length is shortened based on the degree of the curve. Another surgery called krishnamurthi penile dermal flap operation has also been used in treating Peyronie's disease and minor curvature of the penis. The length of the penis is usually not shortened in this procedure.

Do keep us posted on any further doubts in this regard.
