Prostatitis or not...it's really bugging me...

Hey there...

I'm 19 years old, in great health, NCAA athlete.....About 4 months ago, I went to a urologist and he gave me a "rectum exam" after I told him I was having mild penis pain, and clear sticky substance after urination and ejaculation. I told him after the prostate massage that it was very sore when he touched the "spot" and so he concluded that it was in fact prostatitis. He gave my doxycycline for 6 weeks...didn't help...then he gave me Levaquin for 28 days which also hasn't helped.

I'm starting to wonder, is this even prostatitis? It's basically just a mild mild 'tingling' towards the tip of my penis that is exaggerated when I'm sitting down or lying down, but it sort of goes away when I'm standing. In addition, there is sometimes a clear, sticky substance that comes out after ejaculation or sometimes after urination. I don't know if I'm being paranoid or not, but I think my penis head has also become more red and spotty than usual. I don't know what this is and I'm getting really worried and frustrated. I want to find out what this is, and finally get it out of my life. Do these symptoms sound like prostatitis? Could it be non bacterial? Could it be something else? Thank you so much, this is really bothering me...

I've already been tested for those two STD's, which came back negative. So I will make an appointment with another urologist soon. Thanks, and I will let you know what I find out

Hi,
The other possibility which I can think of is basically an infection of the urinary bladder/urethra called as cystitis/urethritis. You have already taken a good long course of antibiotics and hence you don’t need to take any more.  The sticky substance which comes out looks like prostatic secretions only and I don’t think you need to worry about them. Drinking plenty of fluids should definitely help. A prostatic massage on a regular basis to ensure the infected secretions come out should also help. Having multiple sexual partners (in case you have) also increases the risk of sexually transmitted diseases like Chlamydia and gonorrhea which can also present with similar symptoms. To rule out the same, you need to see venereal diseases specialist.
I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
