I have an appointment with a Urologist coming up at the end of February, and I really just wanted to get some things straight so that I could go to him with a clear idea of what to say. You have helped greatly in this regard - thank you.
But regarding Amphetamines, I only *used* to do a lot of speed, and I didn't have this problem back then. I have been clean for about 5 months now, and don't see myself going back. This problem only started after a slight penis trauma which I sustained about 6 months ago, after I had cut down on my use. I only thought it was worth mentioning because, when I used to be on a speed binge, I would notice that I wouldn't "shake/shiver" after urinating soon after the speed kicked in. This would happen every time: as soon as the speed kicked in, I would stop "shivering" after urination, and I feel that now, too, though I don't do speed anymore. I thought the two might somehow be connected, but only because I remember this sensation from back then. But to complicate the matter, I used to smoke ALOT of marijuana & cigarettes as well as do speed, and am COMPLETELY sober and smoke-free now. So it makes it hard to compare my present state with my prior state, as you can understand, since I haven't been this sober in years. But I quit all of that because of slight erectile dysfunction in the wake of my penis trauma, and the urination issue accompanied the penis issues, only seemed less important; hence my sobriety has accompanied my efforts to fight off my penis issues. Now my penis is quite alright, and the urination issue is what bothers me the most. Sorry for all the details.
So now I just experience a strange feeling of tension in my lower torso, and sometimes, strangely, in my feet as well, after urination, when I ought to feel relieved and relaxed. It comes and goes, which I feel is a good sign, but when it's there it's unmistakeable and very, very distracting - all I can think about is that feeling, when it occurs.
Thanks again for your help, very benevolent of you.
Hi,
Yes there are a number of ways to treat causes of urinary retention. Firstly the underlying cause has to be properly managed. Any medications or substance that is thought to cause the condition has to be avoided. In your case, amphetamine use has to be avoided to note if this improves your condition. If this is difficult, you may need a counsellor to guide you through. Structural problems like prostate disorders may be managed through medical and surgical therapy.Neurogenic problems may need further evaluation.
Have you consulted with a urologist? It is best to do so to rule out any underlying conditions.
Thanks a lot, madam, very helpful.
Is it treatable, fixable? It is quite annoying.
Thanks again.
Hi,
Sounds like you are experiencing urinary retention. This may be caused by bladder outlet obstruction, prostate problems , nerve related disorders ( as seen in diabetics ), impaired contractility of bladder muscles, to name a few.
A complete physical examination, post void urine catheterization, urinalysis, and urodynamic studies will be able to help rule out underlyng structural problems . A digital rectal examination may hint on a prostate disorder.
Amphetamine enhances sympathetic action and since urination is regulated by the parasympathetics then this may suggest some contribution to your condition.
Oh yeah, by "shaking off" I mean those shivering spasms which occur after urination, which don't happen to me anymore; they used to happen after every urination, now they happen about once every two days. Also, I used to be a heavy amphetamine user. This may be related.
Thanks y'all...
