Urodynamics and Cystoscopy

Hello,

I'm 44 years old and for the past few years I was suffering with low urine flow. I have no pain or any issue with empting urine or urge of an urine all the time. Two years ago I did a Cystoscopy and last year flow measurement test (Not Urodynamics) and blood test for any cancer and prostate issues. They found nothing.  Again I went to a different doctor thinking to find the cause of this last week. He wanted me to do the Cystoscopy again and UroDynatics test. My question is is it necessary to perform a cystoscopy again since they did not find any issues when performed last. This test makes me nervous since I suffer for months after this. Appreciate your advice.

Having had a couple of bladder tumors removed, I've had many cystoscopies to check for recurrence. Although uncomfortable, I have not had any painful experiences.

You could ask for some Valium to relax you and make sure the doctor is using a flexible scope; the old rigid kind can be painful.

Doctors are trained in medical school to perform in a certain way when presented with a patient's symptoms . It's tough to find a doctor who'll think outside the box. When you present your problems, the doctor instinctively responds the way he's been taught. You've got to get him out of his fog.

Thanks. Yes I dont have residual urine in my bladder after urinating. My only issue is low flow which is less pressure. I tried Flomax for 2 weeks but no improvement. By the way I did a cystoscopy 2 years ago for the same issue. That doctor could not find any clue. I shared the report with the new doctor. So thats why I'm wondering why I needed to repeat this. Its quite painful :(

I think Andy679 means there may be residual urine in your bladder after urinating even if you feel you have emptied everything. That's why the urologist will use an ultrasound to see how well you have emptied your bladder.

I have found doctors want to perform their own tests even if you had the same procedure done yesterday at another office.

A cystoscopy can tell them if the prostate is enlarged and a urodynamics test can indicate if you've suffered any nerve damage(say due to a car accident) which is blocking the signal to your bladder.

However, to this non-doctor, it sounds like you just need some Flomax or anti-biotics.

Yes I feel its emptying. Sometimes one or two drops, otherwise no continues dropping of urine after urination.

One more thing: are you sure you have no residual urine in your bladder after you complete urination?

Slow urine flow could be a consequence of low bladder pressure and/or obstruction somewhere along the urethra
