Weak Stream, burning during urination

I am a 52 yo female and have had minor urinating problems since the birth of my first (of three) child.  I couldn't pee each time after delivery.  Since the birth of my 3rd child (now 22), I've dealt with minor pain (on and off, mostly on) when I pee.  I consulted two doctors early on, took meds (don't remember what) but it didn't really help and I gave up.  A couple of years ago, I kept feeling that I had to pee but couldn't and ended up in an Emergency room where they catherized me, which solved the problem (my bladder was beyond full).  It didn't happen again.  However, I am now experiencing a very slow stream.  It takes forever to pee!  What's the deal?

Nope...no pain in the "Flank" area.  Its pretty much just a urinary problem.  I'm thinking it might be the fallen bladder.  I'm more than willing to have something done to fix the problem, but not one much for medication.  Too many side effects!

Hi Kim,

FLANK AREA -
If you put your hands on your hip, with your thumbs on the back area....now move your thumbs a little more toward your spine and a little up.  This is the flank area.  It's where the kidneys are located.

I know what you mean.  I also have a very weak stream.  Just went to another dr. Monday.  He is trying me another medicine.  I also have lupus and he thinks the lupus might be contributing to the problem.

Several things that can cause "urinal hesitancy" are:
1. benign prostatic hypertrophy (NA)
2. prostatic cancer (NA)
3. spinal cord lesion
4. urethral stricture
5. urinary tract infection
6. drugs with anticholinergic properties (such as tricyclic antidepressants and some nasal decongestant/cold remedies)

(information from "Symptoms Observation Emergency Identification Causes Associated Findings - Nurse's Reference Library)

For me I think it is a stricture in my ureter.  You can click on my nic and see pictures of my kidneys.  Obviously, things have to be pretty bad to get any help.  Maybe if we had a prostrate we would get lots of help!!!

It's not mentioned, but sometimes the bladder can fall and perhaps cause this problem.  But that is not mentioned in the book.  Having babies can sometimes mess this up.  But they should be able to do test to find out if your bladder has falling or not.

Do you also have flank pain or discomfort?
