What could be causing my chronic hematuria?

I have hematuria now for at least a year.  More recently I have been experiencing flank pain and bladder pain, and I pee at least 25 times a day.  I have 2 stones that are just sitting in my kidney not really moving.  I had a cystoscopy today which showed nothing significant.  Can the stones that are just sitting in the kidney cause all this blood and pain or could it be something else?

Hi,
The stones sitting in the kidneys can definitely cause all this pain and hematuria. I’ll suggest you to drink lots of fluids. A simple measure of seeing whether you are drinking adequate fluids or not is by seeing the color of your urine. If it’s colorless, then you’re drinking adequate fluids. If yellow, then you aren’t. Lack of physical activity also enhances the possibility of precipitation of stones, and thus regular exercise which involves jumping like skipping; basketball etc helps in dislodging the stones and ensuring they come out. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.

I have been seeing a urologist and so far he has not found anything significant other than the stones.  I had a hysterectomy about 5 years ago so I know the blood is not menstrual.  He has suggested a CT with contrast, I had a CT without which is how we found the stones.  The more time that goes by without an answer the more concerned I become.  I think most of my confusion comes from the fact that I was under the impression that stones only in the kidney did not cause this many problems.

Hello,
Presence of blood in urine is called hematuria. Causes include lesions of the urinary tract, contamination during menstruation, disease of the prostate, trauma, tumors, malaria or stones in the urinary tract. In your case as kidney stones are present, so these definitely need evaluation as nephrolithiasis or kidney stones are known to cause hematuria. My sincere advice would be to consult a urologist.
I hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
