cystits +haematuria

I've had cystits about 5 times in my life. 1998, 2003, twice in 2007 and now. Every time it has been accompanied by frank haematuria often with a few small clots. It has never lasted more that 2 days at most.

This time my doctor is insisting I go for a urology survey which will include an IV urogram and cystoscopy.

I'm not so keen on this as it been such an infrequent event. I don't really see the need as it always clears up so quickly and is so infrequent.

Your input would be appreciated.

BTW, I am a 66 year old female (retired nurse!)

many thanks
schoo

Ok, so what sort of response are you looking for. If your dr says you need investigation whats the problem. You seem concerned, but you seem to brush aside advice.
I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to understand your reasoning.

to answer your question, Doris - no it's not fear. Spent all of my life working in the op theatre and now all there is to know about scoping (of all types!). I just don't think it's warranted under these circs.

Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

Although I don't really call a 5 year gap, a 4 year gap and a 2 year gap recurrent. It's more simply occasional. If it happened that many times in 1 or 2 years I might think differently but 5 times in 10 years! Many other women should be so lucky!

I think you should have the investigation of the problem being that it keeps recurring. I had a cystoscopy 2 days ago and was terrified at the thought of having this done, but i must say my fear was unfounded, there was no pain just a strange feeling. Is it fear that is stopping you from going ? If so stop worrying it is all over in a matter of minutes. Better to know what the problem is now and treat it than to leave it and the matter gets worse causing other problems.
