uretral dilutation/cystoscopy

Hi,

I had a Urethral dilutation and cystoscopy in february 2008, previously I had one in 2004.  This time I am in considerable pain and the feeling of a throbbing bladder, no amount of bladder relaxants help and only make it worse. I go to the toilet every ten mins and dribble.

What could this be and why would it not have worked this time?

Please help as it keeps me awake all night and is making my life a misery.

Thanks
nicola

Hi,

I went to the doctor and he gave me anti-biotics and took a urine sample which showed white and red cells in my urine. I was referred to the hospital and I have since been to another doctor who has prescribed me trimethoprim for 3 months to see if this will help.

What does this sound like as it sound to me like MSK Shelly's problem above. He didn't actually tell me what the name of the condition could be.

Thanks

Nicola

Hi nicola,

How are you? It could be, but the best way to be sure is to have blood or urine tests. It is best that you visit your doctor for proper evaluation and management of the pain.

It could be an infection so it is important to discuss it with your doctor.  I have had several dilations and scopes.  Sometimes I do well and other times I have pain for up to 2 weeks afterward.  Since this has gone on this long... there maybe something else going on!  I also have interstitial cystitis.  If you do not have an infection and they can find no other reason for your bladder pain you could have IC!  IC is chronic bladder disease that has an unexplained origin.  However the symptoms are much like you describe and the bladder pain often because unbearable,,,, antibiotics do not take the bladder pain away, that is the key,  Either way you need to go back and talk to your doctor!  If you do have IC doctor now have treatments to help with they symptoms and get the pain under control!

Hi,

No fever and slight pain but I can't stand this feeling of wanting to push my bladder out of my body, I have spent all weekend on the toilet, not actually doing anything.  Could this be a simple urine infection.

Thanks

Hi Nicola,

How are you? Do you have fever or pain when urinating? Urethral dilatation is used to relieve painful urination or to avoid chronic bladder infections. I think it would be best to visit your doctor for proper evaluation and management.  He may do some tests or even ultrasound to check if your  bladder or kidneys are fine.

Hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
