thought I should give a little more info. Both of my ankles & feet are swollen and I'm having lower back pain. I'm also extreamly over weight.  I'm 5'8 and probably weight 270 lbs.  Thank you for your insight into my problem.  I have had really bad experiences with Drs. so I'm not looking forward to going and getting the run around. thank you again for ;your speedy response/

Like the other responder said, lower salt intake, elevate your legs, and you should also exercise to get good blood flow.  You may want to eat less carbs too.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Common causes of ankle and feet edema(swelling)include  ankle sprain or a fracture, gout (accumulation of uric acid crystals within the fluid of your ankle),ankle arthritis, infection (cellulitis or septic joint), problems with blood flow like DVT, obesity, and varicose veins. Edema can be caused by a serious condition of the kidney, heart, liver or blood vessels, but many other factors can contribute to its onset, including: Eating a poor diet high in salt and carbohydrates , Abusing laxatives, diuretics, drugs, sodium retention, varicose veins, allergic reactions and neuromuscular disorders.
Elevate the effected leg.Wear leg wedges while sleeping, support socks and proper fitting shoes and socks. Also indulge in moderate exercises like walking, avoid prolonged standing and avoid sitting with the feet dependent.Decrease salt intake and drink plenty of water.

If the edema persists or continues to worsen, please consult a physician.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
