penis pain during/after sex

Hi, I'm 24 years old male. My problem is that my penis gets swollen during and a while after sex. It really hurts even when I put a condom on. Me and my girlfriend often have protected sex but usually unprotected sex (and here hurts the most). I started to have this problem like 3 weeks ago, and it's as painful as the beginning. My penis gets red under the foreskin (on the tip of the penis, and on the ring) and under the penis (on the foreskin, right next to the testicles), and it really hurts when I get the foreskin out to see how swell it is, and it hurts when I wash it, even if it's just with water. I thought it could only be a small cut because at the beginning was just like little red dots, now its just spread all over. I would like to know if this is a big problem or I've heard it could just be eczema or dermatitis. please answer me back the soon as you can!

Hi,

HPV infection may present without symptoms and most people are not aware that they are infected. Being sexually active increases the chance of acquiring the infection. There is no direct test for diagnosing HPV infection in males.Unless, HPV presents with genital warts or some changes in a woman's cervix and pap smear , an HPV infection may not be overtly evident.

Condom use may not provide a definite protection from HPV.In women, the infection may resolve spontaneously. Seek consult with your urologist and discuss your concerns with him/her.

thank you for answering me, I just would like to know one more thing.. is there any chance that could be a problem from HPV? my partner was diagnosed with this 5 months ago, and she treated it in a colposcopy but we had unprotected intercourse before that..and then after she was treated it.. so that makes me think I could have it too.. is there a possibility this virus caused me this?

Hi,

One differential here is balanitis. Balanitis may be due to infections or mechanical trauma. The infections may be bacterial or fungal. Balanitis due to fungal infections are caused by candida in majority of times. Eczema and dermatitis may present with itchiness and weeping of lesions. These are  only  differentials.

A complete assessment by a urologist will be able to help establish a diagnosis. A urinalysis and urine culture ( if indicated) may help rule out any urinary tract infection. A prostatic secretion culture may also help.

Refrain from any sexual activity for the meantime. And clean the area with a mild soap . Only wear dry cotton underpants that are not too tight . Refrain from applying any medications until an assessment has been done.
