Your meals i.e. what you eat, how much you eat and when you eat play an important role in weight loss. Also, regular exercise is important. I'll give you a few tips to lose weight.
1. Do NOT skip breakfast! It is scientifically proven that people who do has a greater risk of being overweight. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it "breaks the fast" of sleeping for 8 hours straight. Not eating breakfast slows down your metabolism for the rest of the day, making it harder for you to lose weight.
2. Drink lots of WATER!! Water speeds up your metabolism a great deal. I know people who have lost a lot of weight by just drinking a lot of water throughout the day and not having to change their diet at all. But it's not just the amount of water you drink, but WHEN you drink it. For example, I drink two glasses of water the first thing in the morning, and a glass right before I go to bed, and of course during the day...
3. Now for the nitty-gritty stuff. This is usually what I do. When I get up, I drink my water then I eat breakfast. Since I exercise a little after I eat. My breakfast contains a little carbohydrates and some protein as well. For example, a slice of toast for carbs, and some bacon or sausage for protein and maybe eggs as well. But I try to keep it small, since I need to digest before I exercise. Then after about 1/2 hour aerobic exercise ( drinking water during this time as well) , I rest for about 20 minutes then I have a protein source. Check these sites for examples:

It is actually very important to eat after you exercise , mostly protein and with little fat as possible, because it is at that time, that your muscles' absorption of protein is at its maximum, absorbing protein to build muscle, instead of your body harnessing carbs and fats for energy. So limit the carbs and fats in the "after-exercise" meal. I usually have a normal diet throughout the day and I repeat my 1/2 hour exercise with meals etc at the end of the day.
Remember, try to not eat too late at night, because after a certain time, your body starts storing that meal for during sleep. And also, yoghurt helps speed up metabolism as well, since it contains active cultures.
That's about it!
The thing that has always worked best for me is eating small meals throughout the day instead of 3 large ones. It is much easier to maintain my weight that way. I also try to eat the same things (or close to it) in the morning and afternoon so that I am not guessing at calories all day long. I mix up dinner so I have something different to look forward to.
