Allergies Strike Again

I love summer.  I love the fresh fruits.  I especially love melons.  All kinds, honey do, cantelope and especially watermelons!!!!

However, I found out some dozen years ago that melons do not love me.  I started having allergic reactions to cantelope first, then honey do, and finally watermelon.  But every year, I try them again just to see what will happen.  So goes this year....fresh watermelon from the in-laws.

Right now I'm waiting for my benedryl to kick in and hoping that I don't have to break out my child's nebulizer.  I should be thankful that her nebulizer is available (not thankful she has asthma, though)... the LAST time I did this, it set off a major asthma attack and I did not have an inhaler or anything available, borrowed my nephew's inhaler the next day when it had not cleared up.  My asthma is rare now-days, for which I am thankful.  But it also means that I don't keep anything handy should I have one.  Ooops.

Lucky me, love something and can't EVEN think about eating some.  When I was a kid, I would eat melons forever.  It was a good way to stay on my diet when I was in my early twenties.  NOW?????  Well darn.  I do love a good melon, they just don't love me.

Oh, sorry .... should note that my oncologist (1 of 2 that I had during treatment) is now a GP, not by his own doing...just that the hospital he worked at/with decided to get out of the oncology business and he did not want to go anywhere else.

Broke down and went to my oncologist at lunch about my continual coughing and "goo" production attributed back to the infamous ingestion of watermelon that has recently gotten better.

His advice...stop eating watermelon, melon of any kind.  Do not do that again.

He did however, give me an inhaler for any further stupidities.

It is rather funny!!!  You should see me salivate over some that looks too good to eat!  I keep hoping that things have changed, only to find out that once I eat melon, my throat swells up, I lose my voice (gets raspy), and I cough/choke, then if I can't get something to stop the reaction, I have massive asthma attack because I can't breathe.

Then I truly regret the decision to eat one of my favorite foods.

THANKFULLY peaches, nectarines and strawberries are still ok to eat.

I figured someone might comment on the fact that my in-laws brought it.  Yes, they KNOW about my allergies to melons.  Yet, they still bring them!  Are they trying to tell me something?

I had to laugh, I'm sorry.  I can just picture you looking at a nice watermelon and thinking that maybe this year you won't react badly!

I have asthma infrequently, too.  I lose more inhalers than I could ever use!

It is the definition of insanity....doing something over and over again, expecting a different result.

I'm insane.
