I totally agree with barb here,,...if you are not familiar with exercising it's better to start with walking and gradually build it from there...
You wud definitely find a lot of support in this community and be sure to check in when ever you have the time!
Hi Jess8487. Welcome. I'm pretty new here too, but I've already found out that it's a fun place to check in and see what 's going on. It's cool to know that there are other people out there that trying to do the same thing I am and to have people willing to help find solutions and give encouragement.
I'm hypothyroid and struggling to lose 25-30 lbs that I gained prior to being diagnosed. It's not easy, will keep working on it.
Walking is always good activity to start with if you have a suitable, safe place to walk. If you aren't used to exercising, start slow and add more as you get stronger. As to food - stay with the healthy stuff and you can't go wrong. As Renae said - take baby steps; and set smaller goals (2 lbs to lose is not nearly so overwhelming as 20).
Good luck
Hi Jess ~ Thank you for your post and for reaching out to be healthier. There is much we can do to assist you ... and would highly encourage you to make this your "new home" in your journey. The people here, the advice they share ... their knowledge and support ... is what makes this all so wonderful and work so well. The trackers .. weight, exercise, mood, BMI and a host of others .. help us monitor our progress and hold us accountable to ourselves and, if you choose to share, with your friends and/or community.
First, may I suggest 3 small meals and 3 small snacks a day. This helps us maintain our blood sugar levels and keeps us feeling fuller longer and eliminates those severe calls for hunger. Keeps our metabolism working at peak performance too.
Next, implementing some moderate exercise is key. Try a variety of things and find something you like as you are more likely to stay with continue doing the exercise if it is something you enjoy. Open your mind to try all kinds of new things .. trust me, you'll find something along the way that will really put a spark of excitement in you.
Now don't worry about making massive changes too quickly. Make a few changes, get them under your belt and then make a few more. We call them baby steps .. lolll
We host periodic weight loss challenges, which is not a quick fix for losing weight. It is concerted periods of time where we focus on a short-term goal (2-3 pounds in 2-3 weeks) and have fun and offer support, encouragement, ideas and friendship to make our journey more enjoyable. We are stronger together than we are apart.
Both Skailark and Red have been active participants in the challenge that ends tomorrow .. as well as many others .. and we'll be starting another one in November.
Sure hope you'll join us here on a regular basis, implement the trackers and become a new friend. Here to support you and would be honored to share in your journey.
Sunshine wishes .. many (((Hugs))) .. and best wishes for your health ... YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
