This is a wonderful thread and one I will print off as it grows. I'm headed to work and can't answer now, but will in the near future ... will help for you to know about me as well. I'll be compiling a list of everyone's issues and we'll try to do some posts that address each issue so we can provide the most assistance, feedback and support for everyone. We'll categorize them and answer the ones that affect the most of us first and then go down the list.
Thanks so very much for this thread, msgorgeous! And .. thank you all for your honesty and the forthright manner in which you are sharing. It is in this honesty and willingness to take action that we will definitely move forward in success together!
(((Supportive HUGGSSSS)))
I am 46, 5' 3", hypothyroid, and was at my largest (196) in early June just before I had ovarian cyst surgery (I had put 10 lbs. on from the cyst and the stress it caused). Since then I have lost 15 lbs. by eating very healthy, reducing my intake of red wine, and trying hard to be active. People would never know I weigh what I do (181) since I have always carried so much of my weight in my booty and legs. Pants with control top pantyhose really help there. I now have too much fat in the belly and in my arms. I struggle with getting exercise. I have been diagnosed with tendonosis in my right shoulder and cannot do exercises that will impact that. I work from home in the software business so am quite sedentary. I need to get into the habit of scheduling exercise time and following through with it. I do have an eliptical trainer that needs to be dusted off and put back into action.
Hey there...
I'm one of the thyroid-y weight-y folks :) I'm about 5'7" and 74ish kg (around 163lbs). At my largest, I was almost 180, but dropped almost 30 lbs during grad school due to better eating & exercising habits. I moved to Romania with my husband in Spring 2007 for the Peace Corps and stopped going to the gym. My eating habits did not change altogether too much (though if you ate only street food here, you would blow up beyond recognition, i'm sure) and, in fact, became even healthier. However, since there was no major cardio besides walking 2 - 3 miles a day, an ovarian surgery, and the new thyroid development - i packed on about 15 lbs in a very unpleasant way - right around my middle.
I do not have a very good self-image right now. I have started back at the gym (about 3 months ago), and have yet to see any discernible changes - much to my frustration (i'm not very patient, i know). I usually do 45 min - 1 hour of cardio (stationary bicycle or elliptical) followed by 40 - 45 minutes of yoga/pilates or weight training - 5 - 6 days a week. As for eating habits, i might do a little better on the sugar side, but i don't believe that i over-consume. My portion sizes are generally small - regular. I've taken to eating twice a day, as I don't have much of an appetite. I drink hot tea & water.
My body is driving me nuts & feel like i look awful - despite what my husband says (poor guy!) Trying to fit into my clothes from last year is a fiasco in most cases. Thank goodness it's heading to winter so i can wear baggy stuff!
So i will go first.. im 5 ft 6 and I im at my biggest weight now. around 175 pounds to 185 maybe more i dont look like i weight that much but i do. im top heavy always have been.
my problem areas are my stomache i have a tire as some ppl say love handles. my thighs seem to be getting bigger the only toned part onmy body is my lower legs which have good muscle still.
my eating habits: i use to eat whenever and whatever sounded good my diet consisted of soda chips candy icecream cookies pizza all the un healthy things.
