Safe weight loss is considered to be 1-2 pounds/week.  If you're losing a pound/day, most likely it will only be fluid or it will be a regimen that's actually harmful to the body and can't maintained over the long term. A grown woman should never consume less than 1200 calories/day - anything less is basically, a starvation diet.

Trying to burn 3500 calories in a day is excessive.  For instance, a 155-pound person burns about 596 calories in 60 minutes going 5 mph on the treadmill. At this rate, it'll take almost six hours to burn 3,500 calories. How many people have the time and/or stamina to spend 6 hours on a treadmill or doing any type of strenuous exercise, daily.  If you can't go that fast, it will take even longer.  In addition, you'd have to maintain a starvation diet, because any food intake would add calories, which would then have to be burned in addition.

This type of regimen is unsafe and unrealistic; it would actually decrease metabolism, rather than increase it, as is needed for weight loss and would not be maintainable over the long term.  Weight lost would be regained as soon as one resumed a normal eating pattern.

Decrease calorie intake by 250 calories/day and increase energy expenditure by 250 calories/day.  This will give a safe steady weight loss of 1 pound/week (500 calories/day X 7 days = 3500 calories).

A gram of carbohydrates and a gram protein each have 4 calories.  A gram of fat has 9 calories.  But that doesn't mean we should cut out all fat, either, because our bodies need healthy fats, including saturated fats. Some vitamins and minerals are fat soluble, meaning there has to be fat in order for them to be absorbed and used by the body.

Just cut out the simple carbs like those found in processed foods and eat the complex carbs like those found in veggies and whole grains and you'll go a long way toward reaching your goal, so long as there aren't underlying health issues preventing weight loss.

The whole idea of losing weight is get healthy and keep the weight off.  The more yoyo dieting we do, the harder it is to maintain steady weight later in life.

It is possible to lose a pound a day. You should consume between 800 and 1,200 calories a day depending on your weight and how much you exercise. Cut out sugar, fat, salt, and most carbohydrates. Vegetables and proteins fill you up quickly and have very few calories. You will need to burn 3,500 more calories than you consume in a day. Do some calorie-burning aerobic activities. Drink enough water. Not only does drinking water keep your stomach full, it will help replenish your fluids and keep you energized while exercising. Drink between 10-12 cups of water each day. Be sure to eat a proper early dinner, though, so that you don't wake up hungry in the middle of the night.

In order to lose one pound, you will need to burn 3,500 more calories than you consume in a day. If you weigh 150 pounds, then you burn about 1,500 calories per day just by going about your usual business. If you eat 1,000 calories, then you'll need to burn 3,000 additional calories each day to lose one pound.Eat low-calorie foods that fill you up. Your diet should consist primarily of vegetables and lean proteins. Eat lettuce, celery, broccoli, green beans, spinach, and other greens. For protein, eat chicken, turkey, fish, and tofu. Vegetables and proteins fill you up quickly and have very few calories.
