lap band surgery

Im had a lap band surgery 5 years ago and lost 65 lbs.   I have stomach pain  and diarrhea chrnoically.  I have been very sick for several months.  I do have part of the day I feel okay, however,

In the past, I ate too fast or I was too uptight for meat to go down without it coming back up. Now

Now I take benefiber X 2 per day and activa.  I eat meat only a couple times per week,I only eat meat when I am relaxed. My major sources of protein is cheese.  I go through periods (when adult children are not eating with me) that i eat  a lot of beans and lentils.

what do I need to do to feel better?  and lose another 30 lbs?

Renee I really appreciated your kind response.  I weigh 180, and 5'5, and I sit in a chair all day. Except I work out 1-1.5 hours every day (swimming, weights). I don't know what kind of activity level that is.

I am convinced about that food charting idea.  It seems critical.

I am excited about this community! I am a mental health therapist who does intensive case management for a major insurance company--so I run into issues like my own all the time. But it is difficult to be objective about oneself. That is how a community can help.

And personally, you sound like a great person to know!

With the very best intentions, I would suggest that you begin to journal your food intake so you will have a record of what foods you are eating, the time of day, how much you are consuming at each meal, and how you are measuring your intake ... i.e. portion size, calories, points, carbs, etc.

Do you know how many calories you should be consuming to maintain your weight?  If so, please let us know .. if not, I'd be happy to help you calculate this but will need your height, weight, age and activity level (inactive, moderately active or active).  If you do not wish to share this in a forum, you can send me a personal message.

Did a little research on diet after lapband surgery and here is a link you may find helpful.  http://www.lapband.obeseinfo.com/lap-band-diet.htm  They suggest eating only 3 meals a day ... I am a proponent of 3 meals and 3 snacks but realize I have not had the surgery you have.  You may want to consult your physician regarding what he/she feels is appropriate for you.  In the paragraph below, I am describing the 3 meals and 3 snacks .. you'll have to decide if you should stay with the recommended 3 meals only following a lap band procedure.  Since you're 5 years out, not sure what would work best for you.

Basically, eating healthy nutritional food would be best.  Perhaps starting out slow and eating something like oatmeal, cheerios or eggs and toast for breakfast.  Perhaps a fruit for a midmorning snack, like a banana, apple, orange, mango, etc.  For lunch, perhaps some soup and a salad with some low-calorie dressing or some beans and rice or cottage cheese or lentils along with some vegetables.  You may want to try something like deli-sliced turkey breast, very thin, as it may go down easier since it is paper thin and not like a chunk of meat.  There are many ways to add protein to your diet ... cereal + milk is a protein, rice + beans is a protein, or you can add protein powder, etc.  There's a couple vegetarian proteins that are natural and substituted for meat, but I'll have to look up the names of those again.  Was going to do that for my mom and me as well.  She doesn't like meat and I just wanted to expand my horizons and try something new.

Incorporating some moderate exercise is a key component to weight loss.  It not only strengthens our muscles and bones, it helps lower our risks of disease, provides a sense of well being, elevates our mood and burns calories/fat.

Try to eat slowly and chew your food well.  There are enzymes in saliva that help the digestive process and it gives your brain time to realize that your tummy is getting full.

Basically, it is nutritional food and exercise ... and support from this community.  They're a great group of people who share suggestions, motivation and support.  We're all in this together.  YOU CAN DO THIS!!!  Please keep in touch ...
