I have a very real problem with binge eating. I have chronic pain and depression issues. But I'm aware that my weight only makes matters worse. I am diebtic so a balanced low calarie food plan is important. I need support, I can't do it alone.

When you post here on the open forum, everyone can read your message, you don't have to send to each individual.

Well, you certainly have enough going on, don't you?

Do I understand correctly that you do currently take thyroid medication?  What medication are you on?  Do you know what your latest levels were.

Autoimmune diabetes can strike at any time.  I have a sister who was diagnosed with it when she was in her late 60's.

Both diabetes and thyroid disease (do you know if you have Hashimoto's) can cause weight gain/inability to lose weight; particularly thyroid disease, because it slows your metabolism to a crawl.  Most of us find it impossible to lose weight until thyroid levels are optimal.

It's always easier to say "I'll start tomorrow"........ wish I had a nickel for every time I've told myself that...... please feel free to join our challenge - you'll find it on our main page.  In addition, please join us each Sunday for our Sunday Weigh In -- I post it first thing Sunday morning and that's where anyone who's interested posts their progress or problems from the previous week.

I hope you are feeling better now.

Hey everyone.

The challenges in life that we all go through have meaning.
We try to find meaning and solutions within our conscious minds.
However, most of the time our conscious minds, are simply not
able to give us the answers.
Life in our world could be viewed as one big school, where we came to learn lessons.
And this is a concept, that our logical thinking mind, cannot accept easily.
By the way, only 5% of our actions are directed by the conscious mind and 95% by the subconscious mind.
No wonder there are tens of millions of people dieting at any given time!
The underlying fundamental reasons are rooted deeply.
Should you have any interest in this area, and seek true healing in your life, please post your comments.
Blessings to all,
Nikodicreta

Is there someway to post a response to several people at one time? I'm on my way home from the funerial and the stress of the loss has really kicked up pain where I didn't know I had. Anyway Ill try to answer some of your questions. The difference in my leg lenght is what started the problems. I have osteoarthristis slipped and ruptured disc and bone spurs between disc. I have two bad disc in my neck that causese pain and nerve damage in my arms. I was sent to a rhumatolgist. She said there are 6 or8 trigger points.( I forget the number. If 4 or more are tender on examination it is diaganosed fibromyagia. This was at least six years ago so it things may have changed. My symtoms are those areas from time to time feel bruised and hurts to move them. I'm not sure about my diabeties. It was adlult onset but I take 5 shots a day. I am insulant dependant. I see the best endrocologist in Florida he oversees my throid. the test you menioned above are actually done 4 times a year. My specialist does them 2 times a year and my gp does it to does them 2 times a year. If my gp finds anything off she sents me to my specialist. But I see my specialist every six months even if she doesn't find anything. I was taking .3 it was reduced last visit to .25. I had a nodule in my left side last visit but now my gp thinks a scyst has developed. I see my specalist next week.

I am on disabilty. I have been for ten years. It was very hard for me. I owned my own grooming shopa and knew most owners and dogs by name. It felt like I was giving up and losing everything I had worked for, but I just couldnt do it anymore. I have trouble now just grooming my own poodle, sometimes it take 2-3 days to complete her.

But I know none of this is to blame for my weight, as you said only I can control that. I can't even blame it on lack of knowedge. I had a complete class one on one with a registered nurse. Not only that but I have dieted my entire life. I know all about simple and complexed carbs. I have a form telling me how much of what I should be eating, again just my choice not to.

But when I am on my own it is just so easy to say I just dont feel like it tody, I'll start tomorrow. I need something like the challenge you mentioned and would love to join that. I need to use the tracker to see realistically how I'm doing. I know how to be accountable for every thing in my life but for what I put in my mouth. I even know how much it will reduce the pain. I just have to do it. And it's easier to do with a group. So thank you for being there, for everyone who has resonded. I will start my tracker in the morning. We are moving to another campground tomorrow, but we should avrive early enough to do some walking. I'll keep in touch. Gail

I'm sorry I haven't been on in a couple days; my life is pretty hectic right now.......

I find that if I drop a few pounds, my pain is less, as well.

Rest assured that you don't sound like a nut......... Looking over your post about arthritics and fibromyalgia, I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions........

What type of "arthritics" do you have?  Do you have RA or osteoarthritis?

Do you know that fibromyalgia is usually a set of symptoms that doctors simply can't explain?  Many times a patient is diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but really has another problem.

Have you had your thyroid levels tested?  Many of the symptoms of fibromyalgia are exactly like those of hypothyroidism, and once placed on thyroid replacement hormones, many/most of the symptoms go away......

I ask these questions, because I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease in which the body (for some unknown reason) sees the thyroid as "foreign", so produces antibodies to attack it...... over time, the antibodies "kill" the thyroid so it produces less and less hormone.  The thyroid controls many of our bodily functions, including temperature control, metabolism, heart rate, etc.......

When the thyroid "whacks" out, all of the things you have going on (weight gain/inability to lose, joint/muscle pain, etc), can happen.... I'd strongly suggest that you get tested for the following: TSH, Free T4 and Free T3.  Those are the main tests and depending on how they come back, I'd probably recommend others......

I've been down the road you're on......

You are absolutely right -- you're diabetic (type I or II?); if you eat sugar and "certain carbs" you can put yourself into a vicious cycle.  Sugar and other simple carbs (candy, chips, white bread, pastries, etc) cause your blood sugar to "spike", then within a short time, the bottom drops out and you have to eat more sugar to bring your levels up.... this is the vicious cycle.......  your blood sugar spikes and plummets on depending on your eating schedule.

You need to eat complex carbs, quality protein and good fats at regular intervals in order to keep your blood sugar levels steady....... it takes a while to get regulated, and we all "wig" out now and then, but it can be done......

I am very sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law........

I, too, love photography and woodburning, as well as woodworking, though with my work schedule, I have little time for either........ I'll be retiring in a few months, so I'll be able to get back to both....

Please keep posting, we can work through this together....

My pain started in the late 80's. I crushed my anklet. I've lost 2" and my ankle had to be fushed, so I have no movement in the anklet. Over the years it has thrown my back out of whack. I have several slipped disc. I also have bone spurs and and bad dics in my neck that causes nerve damage. I have arthritics and fibromaga and siatica. I know I sound like a nut but all are doctor diagnosed.  But the truth is 2years ago I lost 50 lbs and the pain was much less. We were going to every zoo and entreatment you could Imagine.then I fell and could not get up for months. I started gaining and didn't stop. Now the pain is awful. I am on disability. My favorate hobby is Playing around with jewelry, photroghy and wood burning. This has been a hard week. I wanted to stop pain pills but 2 doctors said I'll never be able to. The next day my mother in law died. I'll try to check in often. I have found in the past that sugar and certain carbs really set me off. I'll be in touch through the funeral. All suggestions appreciated  Gail

You have come to the right place.  Barb135 has been here a long time and is faithful and knowledgeable. There are also a lot of caring people here who might be in the same boat as you...like chronic pain.  I have been in chronic pain since 2007 but it has been worse since my most recent surgery (knee) this past Feb.

I lost over 65 lbs starting almost 5 years ago and have kept MOST of it off for 4 years now. I am back now to tweak things and offer and receive support - and maybe you and I can help each other.  I tend to eat for any and every emotion, but I have decided I *refuse* to eat for pain or boredom.  I have worked too hard to get where I am.

If this is any help, I found in my weight loss of 5 years ago that much of it was a "decision" and NOT a "feeling".  I have to remind myself of that frequently.  I also have to tell myself that *CAN* do this and it helps a lot.  I am tired, because I get up before 4.  I am going to go to bed, but we will see you more, I hope.  Keep posting.  That is key to success.  Good luck !

I don't mean to be personal, but do you live alone?  have a job?

Can you tell us about the pain? Do you have a particular medical problem that causes it, such as osteo-arthritis, RA, MS, etc?   Is it muscle/joint? Do you take any type of med to relieve it?

It's easy to get into self pity mode when we hurt; the thing is - you can't pick up food every time you are in pain, laying in bed, watching TV........ nope, we won't let you do that.  I can give you all kinds of tips/hints, and I don't want to sound harsh, but when it's all said and done, YOU are the one who has to be accountable..  YOU have to decide whether you will take control and get the weight off, which will, maybe, help with the pain, or if you'd rather lay in bed, watch TV and eat...  your decision; we're only here to encourage and help you follow through.

I, too like crafts....... what kinds do you like to do?  I work long hard days, so don't have a lot of time, these days, but I do some woodworking, when I can...... plus, over the years, I've done tons of other things........

Thank you, I'm trying to follow the diet the nutrisnast gave me when I was first dianosed. I think boredom and depression are the main reasons I eat. By the end of the day the pain kicks in really bad so I lay in bed and watch TV.  Then I get in self pity mode and decide I deserve to eat. I love crafts but hands hurt to much. I think I'm going to try some larger crafts. The main thing is being held reasonable for my behavior
So I think things like the tracker and the challenge would be great for me. Thank you
So much! Gail

You are welcome to be in this group.  Please tell us how we can best help you.

We've just started a new weight loss challenge you might like to join, as well.

You are right - eating from supper to bed time is not good for you.  Are you eating because you are bored, lonely?  If you eat because you are bored, you might try finding a hobby that will keep you busy during that time; if you are lonely, maybe calling/visiting a friend might help.  Just a couple of suggestions; as we get to know you, maybe we'll have more.

Also eating a diet rich in protein and fiber will keep you filled up, so maybe you won't feel so hungry, plus there are a lot of foods that are low calorie, so you can eat all you want.

Hey finsright.
There's reasons for binge eating. You are self medicating with food.
Look into deficiencies that you may have.
Check  chromium levels ( glucose tolerance factor)
Magnesium Deficiencies ( Chocoholism and sugar cravings).
Your favorite foods are your biggest offenders.
That's where you will find some answers for your problems.
It is nice that you're reaching out.
However, I think, counselling, may be the best and safest approach.
A diabetic coma, is definitely something you do not want to have.
Blessings
