44 yrs with preg syms but hpts BFN. Could hook effect be cause of BFN

Haven't ttc yrs now after last preg full of complications, losing 1 and survivor with sev med issues from being micro preemie and DS...now dx with cancer and on chemo! No AF 3 mos poss perimenopause/stress then Had a 2-3 day lite AF of brown/pink/Red. 6 weeks later got numerous preg symptoms. Both hpts taken a week apart BFN. Read about hook effect and wondering if that could be cause for BFN or is muy body just messing with me for no treason since I thought I was perimenopausal anyway?
