Episiotomy

Hi I have a question for the expert gynaecologists out there. During the birth of my daughter I had to have an episiotomy. This didn't heal correctly and when I went to see the gp they treated it with silver nitrate, which didn't work. I have not been able to get a straight answer as to whether this is a normal treatment or if they were incorrect in doing this? Please help as this is really making me feel upset and down. Thank you in advance
