Mirena IUD pregnancy symptoms

Hi guys!  I had a mirena inserted in march 06, i bleed for 2mths straight and then stopped, and got a normal period a month later.  I am 3weeks over due for my period, im always tired, frequent urination, weight gain (eating heaps)...and feeling sick like i want to vomit.  I have also had problems with my bowels (which is common in my pregnancies).  I have three children already oldest is 3 and the young 8mths.  I have got pregnant on the pill, the implant (in the arm)...and im scared im pregnant again.  I had a home preg test which came up neg, then a week later it came up lightly positive.  Just to make sure i took another one three days later and it came up neg.....what is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Rosalind

I was due to have mine replaced in february, and found out I was pregnant last week. Had the same symptoms as you, which I didn't have the whole 5 yrs before...Thank god we caught it early because it ended up being an ectopic pregnancy, and I began bleeding into my abdomen before the tube ruptured, so I had to go in for emergency surgery on 1/3/12 to have it removed. I WILL NEVER AGAIN USE AN IUD AS A METHOD OF BIRTH CONTROL. I am completely freaked out that this happened to me, and could have killed me. I hope that you are not pregnant, but I would reccomend getting a blood test ASAP. When I found out I was only 4 wks and 5 days, and they couldn't even see anything on the ultrasound the first time. I had to wait 4 more days for them to see SOMETHING on the ultrasound, and when they finally did, like I said, I was bleeding internally already...Best of luck to you, as I am still recovering from this nightmare!

So, yesterday I went to my OB-GYN for the emergency appt. I had to see where my IUD was, and to do a blood test to confirm the pregnancy hcg levels in my blood. When I saw the Dr, I was convinced that since I hadn't been able to feel the strings to my IUD, that it had become expelled from my body in some way. I was surprised to hear her say that the IUD was EXACTLY where it was supposed to be! We discussed the risks of keeping the IUD in place, but before we could go any further, we have to rule out an ectopic pregnancy which is one of the complications of getting pregnant with an IUD in place...so, I was sent over to the hospital to have a stat ultrasound and stat bloodwork. the bloodwork showed that my hcg level was at 467, which is normal for this stage of pregnancy. Unfortunately the ultrasound didn't show anything, since it is too soon to see ANYTHING in my uterus. They say that they normally can't see anything that early, as according to my last period, I am only 4 wks and 6 days. they can usually start to see something around 5 wks, once the hcg levels reach between 1500-2000. So, my IUD remained where it was, and I was told to repeat my bloodwork in 48 hrs as the HCG levels double every 48-72 hrs in a normal pregnancy. this reading will help them to determine early on if this could possibly turn into a miscarriage, or signs of an ectopic pregnancy. this morning my ob-gyn dr. calls me, and asked me how I was feeling, and that she wanted me to go to labor and delivery at the hospital because after reviewing my bloodwork and the final results of the ultrasound, and discussing with other doctors, they didn't want to wait to remove my IUD, they want to remove it today, to give the pregnancy every chance to grow normally. So I went to the hospital, had the IUD removed, which was quite painful, but over in a second. I was told that there of course is still risk of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, and due to the removal of the iud may experience spotting or bleeding, which also may not mean either of the above, and could just  be from the IUD removal itself. I still have to go for repeat bloodwork tomorrow to check if my hcg levels are doubling as they are supposed to, which again, a good indication of normal pregnancy. I will have to have a repeat ultrasound later in the week to determine where the pregnancy is; and repeat bloodwork again...
