Back in January, I developed a lump under my right nipple. It was painful to the touch and the area felt swollen. I was examined by my doctor who told me it was probably mastitis, which is usually something that occurs with breastfeeding (I have no children). By this time, the lump & swelling had gone down and it wasn’t as painful. She then asked me if I’d had any damage to the area lately, and I told her about slipping in the shower a few weeks earlier and somehow pressing the razor I had in my hand against my nipple, which cut me. She said that could be the reason for my lump/swelling but sent me in for a mammogram anyway. I went in for the mammogram on February 3, and by now the lump had all but disappeared. The doctor didn’t see anything and he didn’t feel anything, so he sent me on my way. The lump and swelling did disappear, but since then, it has come back about 3 different times. The most recent occurrence happened this week. A few days ago, it started off as a small lump, and it only hurt a little bit. By Wednesday, the lump had grown quite big, bigger than its ever been, and I could feel it surrounding the entire area underneath my nipple. It was also swollen and more painful than ever. Right now, the swelling has gone down, but the lump is still there underneath my nipple. It feels a bit smaller, but it’s still pretty painful. I am just curious what this could be? I will be making an appointment soon, but I thought I’d see if this has happened to anyone else and hear others opinions. Thanks!
