Sore, swollen lump on inner thigh by bikini line

A few days ago I noticed a sore, reddish swollen lump on my left inner thigh, right along my bikini line. It has since gotten larger (about the size of a nickel, and more elongated now).

It only feels sore if I press on it or rub against it. It seems like a soft lump that moves around with the skin. Last night I applied a warm washcloth to it for about 30 minutes, which made it feel better.

Could this be a swollen lymph node, or maybe an ingrown hair? It is located in the area where I shave daily.

Any advice would be very appreciated!

I don't know which is worse - the embarassment or the pain? Luckily, I'm married, so I don't have to explain, but seriously - these things are crazy! I'd had one many, many years ago, then suddenly around April they started coming almost all the time. I get about a week or so of relief between them, then - boom - there's another one. I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS SITE - knowing I'm not alone somehow makes it better. I tried all of the home remedies EXCEPT the Ivory soap, keep it dry method - that's my plan for my current "Mr. Ugly." (I'll let you all know how that goes.) About 2 months ago, one got so big it hurt to sleep (only standing still made the pain go away), then it was followed up by one on my chin (talk about ugly!).

One thing I've noticed - I ALWAYS have a hair in there somewhere. Shouldn't insurance cover hair removal for something like this? It seems pretty "rooted" in the hair folicle (sorry for the pun!) - whether it's ingrown or infection or whatever. And, just so you all know - NOT shaving does NOT help - much to my hubby's dismay, I tried that too.

It makes a great excuse for a nice, hot bubble bath - but we really don't need a reason like this for that :)

I'll let you all know how the Ivory soap works. It that fails, I guess it's off to the MD. I just can't do this anymore.

I've been suffering from HS for over 10 years. It started with ONE cyst on my undie line where the thigh joins. Three times I had it surgically drained under general anesthetic as it kept coming back. Since then, over the years, it's progressed and now tunnels under the skin on my groin area (pretty much anywhere hair grows 'down there') various sizes, shapes. Some burst some don't. Some hurt like he'll and some not at all. Some hang around and pus/weep/bleed for up to a month. I've had more antibiotics than I can count - has never worked. I've been told there's no cure.  Dr said if it gets bad enough they can surgically remove the sweat glands but I see from reading here that still may not stop it.

My mum continually tells me to put a bread poultice on it and I once got so sick of bloody hearing it that I did. Needless to say soggy hot bread did squat. She still firmly believes it's the cure - I firmly believe she's an idiot in this regard!!

My groin area is all scarred and there's patches where hair doesn't grow from the scarring. I'm 35 and single and am not putting myself through the embarrassment of explaining it again to a new partner or having to say "sorry we can't have sex, I have a pussing wound". I guess I'll be single forever.

Some people on here have posted symptoms that may not be HS but for those who have it - well it ***** to be us. A lot.

they are clogged glands, theres no cure they can lance them and drain them but lets face it  who wants to do that, solution that works for me fill tub with hottest water you can stand add epsom salt and soak as long as you can it may take a few soaks but it will pop open dont squeeze just lightly press on it once it pops in the tub and it will drain quite a bit when it slows or stops stand up and rinse, dab dry and apply triple antibiotic cream after a few days the rest just goes away
