Spotting/Periods

I gave birth over 11 months ago. Since I have gotten my period back, they have been heavy for the first 2-3 days. Then they are "normal" the last 4 days. My cycle is typically 28 days, but my last cycle was 35. They have always been heavy my whole life with bad cramping. just heavier now post pregnancy with less cramping. Along with my period coming back I am spotting every mid-cycle... assuming it is related to ovulation? Recently for the past 3 months (starting in August).. (after mid-cycle spotting stops) about a week or so before my period.. I will briefly spot AGAIN for a day. It then stops and my period comes several days later. I am seeing a doctor but just wanted a 2nd opinion. Pregnancy has been ruled out. I had a normal pelvic/transvaginal ultrasound at the beginning of August and have always had normal paps... along with being monitored that goes along with being pregnant within the 2 last years. I have 2 kids who are 16 months apart. When the spotting a week before my period starts.. it started when my husband went out of town and I was really stressed (starting in August). There seems to be a pattern to all of it. I have been really stressed lately.. and now the stress is due to my worrying about my spotting. My doctor is having me do an ultrasound.. but I am wondering if I should get my thyroid levels checked or other hormones? Thanks!
PS- let me know fi you need any clarifications!!

Hello,
Such intermenstrual vaginal discharge is most often associated with old endometrial tissues. It could also mean that for whatever reason during your last menses the entire uterine lining failed to make a timely exit. Stress and anxiety can also cause such symptoms. In some cases however there is cause for concern like  cervical cancer, pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), menopause, or sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and  Chlamydia .You should consult a gynecologist who will physically examine the local area and may consider tests for confirming the diagnosis if the bleeding persists.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I am under the care of a doctor and we are ruling things out just to make sure. I am pretty sure it is all due to stress.. but good to double check.

To clarify.. the spotting a week before my period STARTED the month of August.. when my husband left town and I was stressed. Since then.. the spotting has continued to come around the same time every month since.

So I have two times during the month in which I spot now regular

Mid cycle- has happened since I have gotten my period back since given birth
A week before my period is due- has happened since August.

My doctor did a pelvic exam yesterday and it was normal from what he could see and feel.
