Vaginal Lump

A few days ago I noticed a swollen lump in the vaginal entrance area - (skin coloured with inflamation) as if I can feel a tampon slipping out but over to one side. It is quite painful since last night, all of the time, from sitting to walking  - like a dull toothache but with a nasty sting - occasionally itchy but no discharge. I could not possibly now have sex or use a tampon.  Prior to this a few weeks back I started to develop a fishy smell even after a bath/shower,  could this be related?  Have I let something go that has become an infection??? Please advise.   Many thanks - Lilly.

Thankyou was really worried as not had anything even similar before.  Have taken Nurofen had a few warm salty baths already today and actually they symptoms have eased quite dramatically.  Will seek docs further advice on Monday and hope its what you say and can just have it lanced.  Thanks again for responding so quicky really helped.

I have had this problem before. I ended up in the emergency room over it, Twice. I think what you have is called Bartholin's cyst. Here is a link to some information on it. I had to have mine lanced and since I am currently pregnant they could not remove the gland that causes it until after I have the baby.

It is very painful but it really isnt serious. Actually more common than you might think.
