Water Retention

I don't understand this.  I retain so much water.  I'm afraid to drink water because I don't go to the bathroom to flush it out enough.  I checked my thyroid, I have hypo, and on a very low does.  Spoke to my dr. yesterday and he said it's not the thyroid.  I do have a fibroid, which is on top of my bladder, but my dr suggest I wait till I go through menapause, it will shrink.  That could be another five years.  I sit all day.  I limit myself wtih salt.  So by the end of the day my stomach and legs are huge.  I can actually feel them get bigger and bigger.  I even went to the emergency rm because I was so scared.  They don't know what it is.  Please if you had this problemcan you tell me what did. Thanks

I went to the dr yesterday.  He had to up my thyroid medication.  Also, I have to be on a low sodium diet.  In two months he wants to see me again and see how I'm doing.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Common causes of water retention include  infection (cellulitis or septic joint), problems with blood flow like DVT can impair normal circulation and lead to swelling around the ankles, pregnancy, obesity, and varicose veins.

Edema can be caused by a serious condition of the kidney, heart, liver or blood vessels, but many other factors can contribute to its onset, including: Eating a poor diet high in salt and carbohydrates , Abusing laxatives, diuretics, drugs, sodium retention, varicose veins, allergic reactions and neuromuscular disorders.

You should get it evaluated from a physician.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
